The sharp sound of the curtains being pushed aback and the harsh sunlight engulfing the room was what awoke Nina Summers from her deep slumber on the pleasant morning of March 5th, 1988.

It was a Saturday, and Nina peeped one eye open and took a quick glance to the right where her alarm clock sat. She groaned upon seeing the red digital numbers, discovering that it had just turned 7:15 -- well actually 7:30, due to the fact that the alarm clock was old and told the time 15 minutes slow.

As she snapped her eyes shut again, never wanting to leave the comfort of her new bed, she felt a small figure approach.

"Christina sweetie, wake up."

Another groan escaped Nina's lips at the sound of her aunt Vera's irritating voice and the use of her full name. Christina. It made her cringe enormously.

Refusing to reopen her tired eyes, Nina attempted to pull the sheets up and over her head but before she could, two hands grasped onto them also and ragged them away from her.

"Look, I know you're tired but we have things to do today." Her aunt spoke sternly as she looked down at the stubborn young woman, "I'm going to the market later with your sister and I think it would be a good idea if you came along."

Nina rolled her eyes wearily, "Do I have to come?" She questioned -- however she already knew the answer.

"Yes." aunt Vera answered, earning a loud groan from her niece, "And stop your moaning please, I'm doing this for your own good."

"My own good?" Nina repeated, her eyebrows scrunched together in confusion as she propped herself up onto her elbows, "What do you mean?"

"Well, you've been here for just over a week already and you've barely left the house." Vera pointed out as she placed her wrinkled hands on her hips, "I know that you miss Long Beach, but I think that if you really gave Gainesville a chance you could learn to love it just as much."

"I highly doubt that..." Nina muttered under her breath as she sat up fully, dangling her feet off the side of the bed as she did so.

"Christina, I'm not going to argue with you." Vera spoke gravely, causing her niece to cringe yet again at the chosen name. "You're coming with me and that's that, okay?"

"Fine." Nina sighed with a roll of her eyes -- her most overused action when speaking with her aunt.

"Thank you, now get ready and be downstairs in 20 minutes!" Vera instructed, turning to leave.

"I'd better be getting some candy for this!"

Now it was her aunt's turn to roll her eyes.

The market wasn't as crowded as Nina had anticipated, especially since it was Saturday. She was expecting to be flung around like a rag doll by rude strangers who didn't have the decency to say 'excuse me'. But there was just a small handful of people who had barged into her and a few of them had actually apologized, which surprised her a lot.
