"Do you need anything, Princess Skylar?" I dropped my pen, looking up. I narrowed my hazel eyes towards the door, where one of the maids was standing. I shook my head.
"I'm fine, thank you," I replied, picking my pen back up, writing words down on my notebook paper. I was writing a song and I wanted it to be perfect. The only thing I needed was no disturbance.
"And please, call me Skye." The maid nodded, walking out. A few seconds later, my mom stormed in. The door swung all the way open, the golden knob hitting the wall. I saw a small mark forming, but my mom didn't even turn to look at what she had done.
"Skylar Bethany Lloyd! Stop telling our maidens and staff to call you Skye! Your former princess name is Skylar. Now please stop working on that nonsense and get to dinner!" She picked up my notebook, about to rip out the piece of paper I was writing on. She aimed for the trashcan, but I snatched my book back.
"I bet you wouldn't have done that if dad was here," I muttered under my breath.
"What did you say young lady?" She flashed her blue eyes at me, not blinking. I gulped hard, my mouth going dry. "Whatever you say under your breath, I need to hear as well. There are no secrets in this kingdom."
"Don't you have any secrets?" I smirked, noticing her eyes go glassy and dark. I hurt her feelings. I bit my bottom lip, regretting every stupid word that had just escaped my mouth. I bit down really hard, i felt my teeth dig in my pink flesh. I stopped when I tasted blood. I roamed my eyes around my desk, searching for something to smash or do destruction to. I found a bright pink Post-it packet in one of my pencil vases, so I reached over and pulled one off. I grabbed my black pen, scribbling with all my might. I had a lot of anger instead of me that I needed to let out. I didn't care if my mom was watching. I wanted her to see how much I needed help, how much I needed a friend. I heard her sigh behind me, then she took the pen away from me.
"It's ok," Mother whispered. She had a look on her face like she wanted to do something that she knew she would regret doing. To my surprise, she bent over, squeezing me. I was in a tight hug with my mum. I haven't had this in a long time.
"Come down for dinner," she smiled at me. I nodded, biting down on my lip. I winced when I made contact with the cut on my lip.
"You alright?" My mom turned around, her eyes a light blue once again. She seemed cheerful. I chuckled at the thought of her being cheerful because she always seemed to happy. I nodded, following behind her and down the stairs. I bumped into maids, tables, and other things as I got to the dinner table. When I arrived, I examined the seats. There were a few strangers, which I was used to since we had a huge table. There was one boy, though, dressed up like he was king or the prince. He was about my age. I have never seen him before...
He had dark brown hair, and caramel colored eyes. He was lean, and had a little muscle. He smiled, his pearly whites being visible. I eyed my mom, but she was too busy passing out plates. I cleared my throat, making that 'ahem' noise. Her attention turned to me.
"Oh! Yes, I forgot to announce that. Well Skylar, please have a seat and I will tell you all about it." I gulped, my right hand gripping the red leather chair. My knuckles turned white at how hard I was holding onto the chair. I seated myself across the boy, because surprisingly, that was the only seat avaliable. I folded my hands, trying to seem polite. My mom grinned, moving her fork aside. Waitors were wandering around the dining room, some running into the kitchen, preparing our food. Mother quickly cleared her throat, eyeing me and the mystery boy in front of me.
"This is James," James held his hand across from me. I took it, shaking it carefully. His hand was warm and soft. I wanted to hit my head aganist the table from what I was thinking. I focused back to my mom, hoping this would end soon.
