I watched Darcy run around our flat. Louise had come over for a collab between her and Phil. I could hear the laughter as they attempted the 7 second challenge. A part of me wished I was in there with them, but mostly I was glad I was out here in the living room. I had been set to watch Darcy whilst they filmed. I love kids so much, I want 2 or 3 of my own one day. "Dan! Dan! Look here!" Darcy screamed. I smiled, knocked out of my trance. "Oh yes Darcy, it's a nice plant isn't it. Phil has lots, want to see them?" Darcy's eyes lit up, telling me her answer. I stood up and stretched my arm out to her. She wrapped her small hand around my middle finger, and we walked around the flat. I showed her each plant and her eyes lit up with wonder. Funny how something as simple as Phils dying plants could entertain a child. Something I loved about children, so easily entertained. They were so innocent and yet to know the troubles of the world. As we made our way about to the kitchen, I sat Darcy atop our counter and made her a glass of juice. I leaned back on the stove and listened to her babble on about her clothes and her fun times with Zoe and about her mom and her room and all of the other silly things that kids think about. After about 10 minutes Phil and Louise wandered into the kitchen, laughing about something. "Well hello" Louise said to Darcy, picking her up, "did you have fun with uncle Daniel?" She asked. "Oh yes!" Darcy then gushed on and on about the house plants and the photos they had on the wall. "Can I show you the bestest one in the entire place?" She asked excitedly pulling on her mums hand. "Of course" Louise laughed. We all followed her into the lounge and she pointed up above the fire place. There hung a large picture of me and Phil, framed in black. Both of us in suits, our family and friends around us. There were tall tress with fluffy white blooms on them. Phils hair perfectly placed, my hand in his. An alter with roses hung above us. My groomsmen wearing leather coats and his wearing mismatched socks. I smiled and remembered the best day of my life, our wedding day. Phil picked up Darcy and pointed her out in the picture. "Look, there you are." Darcy smiled "oh yes!" As I started talking to Louise, Phil sat in the floor and played with Darcy. As much as I tried to pay attention to Louise and our conversation on our most awkward moments, I couldn't keep my eyes off Phil and Darcy. The way he played with her and the way his eyes lit up around her. He was so good with kids and honestly it made me crave a child of my own.
