"Which shirt do you want Kalyssa, the blue shirt or the pink?" My mom asked me staring at my soft baby skin with missing front teeth.
"I like the blue one!" I replied jumping repeatedly up and down. All I can remember was my sister and I running around a department store every year while my mom shopped for our school clothes. It's 7am right now and my bus comes at 9:42am. I woke up extra early that morning to have plenty of time to allow my mind to overthink. I think the color brown looks good on me...but the brown pants makes it seem I have no figure...yeah I'll go with the blue jeans. This shirt I love but I don't think some will...The battle continued in my head until 8:30. Now I have less than 40 minutes to do my hair.
*"Mommy, your gonna bump my hair right?"
"That's what you want me to do?" My mom said. "Well okay."
I smiled in the mirror.
This time instead of all my front teeth missing , it was just one on my left.
That was back when mirrors didn't intimidate me. I wasn't quite afraid to see what I was working with. It didn't matter. I always had my face and I always will.
I brushed my hair and looked down. Afraid of facing a monster . A mess. I pin my hair up and leave out the door... Five minutes late.
