As I walk down the shaded forest path behind my home, I watch the trees softly dance in the wind to their own beat and allow my mind to wonder. My beat up Chucks crunch against the fallen leaves, and the cool breeze lures my long black hair to join the trees in their dance. My favorite season had finally arrived. No bugs, nice weather, beautiful nature, spooky season, sweaters.. I mean, whats not to love? My grey eyes take in the view around me; yellow-orange leaves cover the trees, the breeze giving some the opportunity to fly off to unknown destinations. The sun was setting and it filtered in through the trees like little golden rays to guide me through the path. I stop and take a long deep breath and admire my surroundings; it's so peaceful.
The silence is soon interrupted though by a familiar ringtone filling my ears. A smile spreads across my face as I reach into my hoodie pocket and pull out my phone. Displayed on the screen is an image of my best friend, Alexis, with ice cream all over her face.
'That was a great day..' I think to myself, giggling as the memory floods into my thoughts. I slide my finger across the screen smoothly to answer her call, before bringing it up to my ear.
"Hey Lex, whats up?" I ask cheerfully, wondering what crazy idea she has now.
"Ivy.. you need to get down here quick.." she responds, her voice quiet and shaky.
"awh no love, what have you gotten yourself into now??" I ask, my voice full of concern. As i question her, i quickly turn around and head back towards my house, fully concerned for her well being.
"uhm.. its.. its not me this time.. just get to the corner of market and cherry as quickly as possible, i don't have time to explain.. just please hurry Ives, this is an emergency." The words rush out of her mouth, and i can tell this is something serious. By now i'm full on sprinting to my house. Running out of air, i respond between breaths.
"I'm on my way, stay safe until i get there okay? Be there soon."
"Prepare yourself. See you soon." and with that, she hung up.
I reach my house and run up the porch, going inside and hurriedly grabbing my keys. My eyes glance over the note my father had left me earlier stating he'd be home late. I quickly sprawl out "got an emergency, be back soon, love you! -Ivy" and rush out the door, locking it behind me. I get in my car, peeling out of my driveway. The corner of Market and Cherry was only 5 minutes away, but i wasn't about to waste any time. The sun had set by the time i arrived, and what i saw before me made my stomach knot up. Flashing lights, everywhere. I shut my car off and quickly jump out. An ambulance, firetruck, and two cop cars shielded my view from what was going on. My stomach was doing somersaults as i walked closer to the yellow caution tape enclosing the scene. I took a deep breath and attempted to prepare myself for whatever was lying ahead of me. Stepping under the yellow tape, i began walking around the first cop car, but i was stopped by a firm arm. I look up to see a police officer staring down at me.
"excuse me ma'am, you cannot go any further. This scene is off limits to the public" he says, his voice deep and filled with authority.
"Please sir, my best-" but i was cut off.
"Nono! Let her through, she's with me. This is Ivy, the one i told you about." I hear Lex call out. The police officer's arm immediately drops and his face fills with an apologetic look. He motions forwards and gives me a sad nod. Lex runs over to me and hugs me tightly. Her eyes are red and swollen from crying and she's uncontrollably sniffling. I hug her back tightly for a moment, but i cant stand the anticipation any longer.
"Lex.. whats going on here?" I question her, my voice faltering from the overwhelming amount of anxiety i'm experiencing.
"uhm.. it's best i just show you.. i would tell you to prepare yourself again, but now that i think about it, i don't think its possible for anyone to prepare themselves for this.." she whispers this last part, and i can see her attempting to hold back her tears. She takes my hand and starts to guide me around the emergency vehicles, until i get a clear view of the scene. The world stops. She was right, no one could ever prepare themselves for this. My vision blurs from the tears that quickly begin to form in my eyes. The only sound filling my ears is my own heartbeat.
da-dum. da-dum. da-dum.
In front of me, is my father's car crushed to a pulp. To the right of his car, is an eighteen-wheeler with hardly a dent on the front bumper. Tears flow down my cheeks like two angry waterfalls flowing along smooth stones. The world seems to start spinning, and the ground seems to slip out from underneath my feet.
"Daddy..?" I breathe out, gasping, before my vision goes dark and I collapse. The last thing I remember are two unfamiliar arms catching me before I hit the ground.

Hey guys! Thank you all so much for tuning in and reading the first chapter of Part of His World! I'm so stoked to finally be writing again, and especially to be working on this story again. I started this story back when I was around 13 years old. As you can imagine, it was exactly what you'd expect a cringey 13 year old to write. When i looked back on it though, I had a nice concept. So i'm taking the concept from it and creating a better story line. I'm not sure how frequently I'll update this, as i dont want to make it into an obligation. I want it to be something i enjoy doing, not something i feel pressured and forced to do. Anyways, enough of rambling. I hope you guys enjoy, and I'll see you in the next chapter :)
