Today was a good day.
I stared out the window of my room and relished in the warm rays of the sun that danced across my skin, wrapping me in a heated hug.
I lifted my face to capture more warmth from the sun. Summer was nearly over. Just four more days until the start of my last year as a High School student. I groaned, thinking about how bad Cassimere's teasing this year would be. The last year of his torment would surely be the worst as he savoured what little time he had left to break me down and in doing so increase his popularity.
People are mean.
I groaned once again thinking of having to go school and learn. I don't have a problem with learning I just don't like the way they do it at schools.
The way society worked irked me. A person's value to life should not be determined by how smart one is. School is a prime example, if you don't get good grades you are a 'slacker' and therefore 'fail' in life. What people fail to understand is that each person is different and by measuring everyone's abilities in exactly the same way many are at a disadvantage as the schooling system does not agree with them. These people will therefore metaphorically 'fail'.
In the words of Dr. Seuss: "If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will spend its whole life believing it is stupid." Pretty much the same concept.
I have 'failed' many times before. Not because I am not smart but because school doesn't do much for me. I would like to believe I am a rather intelligent person.
I sat in the sun for a little while longer, appreciating the opportunity to relax. Fairly soon I began to doze off.

"Ash!"
I grumbled a bit and desperately tried to hold on to my smoky dream involving some unknown hunk.
"Ash!"
The whisper was louder this time indicating the person had come closer. My shoulder started shaking pulling me out of my beautiful fantasy. I opened my bleary eyes but quickly shut them and placed a hand over them to shield them from the sun. I turned to look at the person looming over my sleepy form.
"What?" I grumbled in my husky, sleepy voice.
"Ash you have to get up now." My sister, Jessica responded looking a little affronted at my less than polite greeting.
"Sorry for being mean I was having a really good dream." I sighed.
"It's okay, mom wants you downstairs for something."
"Thanks," I mumbled before getting up and making my way downstairs. I didn't feel like shouting so I looked through all the rooms on the bottom floor before finding her in the kitchen. I should have looked there first.
"Hey mom," I greeted and sat down on one of the kitchen chairs, "What did you want me for?"
"Hey sweetie, I just wanted to warn you that the Thompsons are coming over later and we're having a barbecue."
Great. Just my luck that what began as a good day had to end with Cassimere freaking Thompson. I sighed.
"Thanks for warning me." I stated before walking to the front door.
"I'm going for a walk!" I shouted to my mom, "I'll see you after the Thompsons leave!"
"HAHA! Very funny, daughter. I expect you back here in time for the food." Came the answer.
Fair enough.
My mom knew of my issue with Cassimere. Not that I liked him but that he teased me all the time. There was no way my mom was finding out from me that I liked Cassimere. If truth be told I didn't like him anymore. He's a jerk. A good-looking jerk but a jerk nonetheless.
