Chapter 1:

“MOM! We are going to be late! And I‘m hungry!” I wailed from downstairs, of our beautiful home. Two stories, huge windows, an elegant spiral staircase, family pictures hung on the walls, and the comfy fireplace in the living room that burned in the cold months of winter.

Every detail graved into my mind. That day was my birthday. The day I’ll never forget. The day that my life changed completely.

December 16th 2006. The day of my parent’s death or formally known as my birthday. New York was ringing with holiday cheer. Streets buzzing with noise of cars and pedestrians hurrying for those last minute Christmas sales. Our home lay on the corner of the street leading into the city where my favorite restaurant was located. Today my parents would be taking me there. It was of course a special occasion.

“I’m on my way down darling, hold on let me just get my coat. You have yours on, yes?” My mother called down to me. She was always so caring with children; that’s why her career of life would have always been a nurse.

“Yes mother.” I sighed, mom was protective like that.

Now I look back to those times she would tuck me in while my father would read my bed time story and how I forced them to stop doing that. But now I would do anything for those moments.

Mother and Father came down the spiral stairs, chatting happily. By the looks they gave each other you could tell their love was strong and powerful. Mother looked completely gorgeous with her blue dress, that fitted her and the bump where my soon sibling would have been. I remember the way she smiled at me when she spotted me by the door. Soon that smile tuned into a small frown.

“Darling, where is your coat? I told you to put it on. Come now, we wouldn’t want you to get sick on your birthday, would we now?” As she, ruffled my hair and put on my coat for me. I quickly fixed my hair and complained.

“Why princess aren’t we a bit grumpy today?” My father spoke as he hugged me tightly.

“Daddy, I’m hungry and you know how I get when I’m hungry.”

Both of my parents chuckled. “Yes princess we know.”

“Yea so can we go?” Why was I so whinny? Didn’t I realize how important family was?

Mother walked away but soon came back, walking gracefully in her heels. In her hands was a white box with a gold ribbon tied around it. She passed it to me with a simple, “Happy Birthday, darling.” A small card around attached to the ribbon read: ‘To: Darling/Princess (Sarah) From: Mother and Father.’ Quickly ripping off the ribbon, I opened the box, a small gasp left my lips. In the box lay an absolutely beautiful charm bracelet. The bracelet held winter charms, my favorite season.
