I wake up barley able to open my eyes. Struggling to lift my hand I rub my eyes and I sit up in my bed. Straightening my silk night gown, I go to the restroom looking in the mirror. I grab a rag wiping the drool from the side of my mouth.
I head back to my room pulling all the weight in my body on the balls of my feet. "Hello marthy" I say looking at Marthy straightening my bed in her usual grey and white dress. "Hello Ms. Redwin." She says turning around to look at me. "Marthy ive told you a thousand time to stop calling me Ms. Redwin, its Adraline, Ms. Redwin is too formal." I say opening my closet looking through my large amount of dresses. Nobody should have this many dresses. "Ms. Redwin if i called you by your first name it would be unacceptable to your mother."
"Well she will learn to accept it, wether she likes it or not i will have a say in things too" I say pulling out a sapphire blue and black laced dress from my closet then closing it. "Oh Ms. Redwin your always so rebellious against everything." Marthy says looking at me with a nice smile. "Not always." I say smiling back, my smile more devious. I fold my dress over my arm and look back at Marthy. "Um...... Marthy." I say clearing my throat with wide eyes and clenched teeth. "Privacy, it's a thing you know." She rolls her eyes at my smart remark and walks out my bedroom door closing it behind her. I take off my white silk night gown and pull the lace dress over my head and straighten it on me.
Looking in the 5'6 foot body mirror I lift my hair out from the dress. I pick up a brush from the small table beside the mirror and starts brushing the knots from my hair. My black hair loses its knots almost instantly. I become more aware and awake and wipe the crust from my blue eyes. I look at myself in the mirror confident of the day and is some what pleases with how the dress looks on me. I barley fit the mirror with a height of 5'4, I'm short and I'm sure that won't change. My black wavy hair passes my shoulders about two inches. I set down the brush in the same place I picked it up from. I slip on a pair of black heels matching my dress. "ADRALINE." I hear mg mother yell from somewhere in the twenty four roomed two story house. " YES!?" I call with annoyance in my voice, rolling my eyes hearing no response back. I open my door, stomping through the rooms searching for where my mothers voice came from. I look in the ball room, the dinning room, the kitchen, the living room, but still no mother. I turn a corner quickly stopping when I see my mother, her nose just an inch away from mine. I back up enough to look at more than just her face. She stops with surprise filling her eyes.
"I see your already ready for the day."
"Yes m'am."
I say trying to sound pleasant enough but a bit of a sneer still managed to escape. She must have noticed it judging by the way her lips tightened together. "Any plans for the day?" She asks her looking at me head to toe then back up. "Well I'm not sure yet, the only thing I was getting ready for was the day itself." I say raising my chin slightly. "Well if you come up with anything just make sure to tell me." She says while walking around and past me.
I stood still until my mother was out of sight. I quickly leaded my head back looking down the hall where my mother went, checking to see if she was gone then continued down the hall I had come across where my mother had came from. I found the kitchen again sneaking an apple then heading down the nearest hall.
I see Marthy come down the hall as well. "Marthy would you please tell mother I will be going out to wander." I say cradling the apple in my hands with a pleading smile. "Don't you think you mother would be happier to hear it from you?" Marty says stopping and looking at me, her eyes widening. "Happier? Mother wouldn't be happy even if I did." I say, rolling my eyes."Can you please do it for me?" I say with my lower lip curling into a puppy dog face. Marthy stops and thinks for a few seconds then takes a deep breath while saying, " Alright fine ill cover for you once more." "Thanks Marthy!" I say with joy and thanks in my voice. She always ask too much of Marthy, I think of Marthy as a friend rather than a maid. I had thought I treated her better than everyone else did. They all treated her with respect and like a friend but I was much more of a friend and attached to her than them. I thought as I ran down the hall trying to keep up with my heels almost falling forward a few times. I make my way down corridors, and staircases. I almost trip on a step but catch myself by grabbing on to the rail. I run cautiously for a door which I has recognize as the from door. I open it looking around to make sure nobody was watching me. I walk out quietly closing the door behind me. I start running again, a little slower then I had when she was inside. I run into the forest, I stop at what looks like, if your mind was creative enough, a small cottage made out of fallen trees and branches. It looked like a home made by fairies. You know the ones kids dress up like for Halloween, sometimes dressed in rainbow colors. I laugh a little at my childish mind. If someone where to have found my little cottage their creative mind would probably take off and think Tinker bell had lived there. I did live in England believe it or not so who could blame them for thinking such a thing. I made my way inside it and sit on a stool I had brought from a house a while ago. I carefully take my heels off, replacing them with a pair of black boots only about half an inch above my ankles. I grab a black leather jacket, short like a crop top slash jacket with zippers where the pockets where, it was cute I favorited it. A jacket that looked like it would fit a 10 year old with its short sleeves. I duck out of my "Tinker bell" cottage, well that's what it looked like, and make my way, running for town. This time I was running faster than I had all day. I liked wearing heels, they made me look taller but I couldn't venture in them sadly, I could if I wanted to end up with a few bruises maybe a sprained ankle. Totnes is a lovely marketing town, I love it, knew the people, and they knew me. Mostly because I spent allot of time there more than others.
I like to go in my favorite jewelry shop, I'm not girly, I just like shiny stuff. Something in me didn't to be "girly." Trying not to get pulled in by my thoughts too much, I look around noticing everyone in sight eying me. I wasn't use to it use to it, even though it wasn't something knew to me. Even when I look back at them they still continue to look at me, people are weird. I hated it, I hate feeling uncomfortable whenever I go out in public. Not like I could just yell out, "Stop starring me, take a picture it will last longer than looking at me like a confused dog being teased with a treat!" Like that wouldn't be weird and cause a huge scene.
I'm getting back out of the town, I can just go to the shop next time. I take the fastest way out of town and head back to the woods. I run back seeing the forest in sight I stop and catch my breath. I climb up a tree in the open not connected with the woods, I sit on a branch with my back against the trunk of the tree. I take a bite of the apple I'd been carrying around that I had gotten earlier. The air was cool as the wind blew against my face. The sun shined bright. Everything was calm, the weather made me a bit tired,or maybe it was from all the exercise I got today. I close my eyes enjoying the world around me, taking it all in I let out a deep breath then slowly opened my eyes. I drop the apple down off the tree, out of my hands then I started making my way down the tree as well. Not like the apple did, I simply, carfully climb down. I look down at my hands, they are rough after that but I don't care much. I start running back to the "Tinker bell cottage" quickly. I run back into the forest and sit back on the stool replacing my boots back with my heels. I take my jacket off, and set them on the stool. I am tired and exhausted, I don't feel like running carefully in heels. I want to get home and plop on my bed. I run back out of the woods and back home. I see the big house in sight and I slow down my speed. I sigh and continued walking to until I reach my front porch. I open the door; seeing no one in sight, I hurry up the stairs and down every hallway until I reach my room. I close the door behind be after running in. I fall down to the floor against my door and catch my breath. I hear a knock on the door behind me and quickly come to my feet facing the door. "Yes?"
"The ballroom is almost ready for your birthday party tomorrow Ms. Redwin."
"Why are you coming to me about it Marthy?"
"Just wanted to let you know Ms."
"Thank you Marthy."
I hear her walk away, her footsteps echoing through the halls. I sigh heavily and fall back on my bed. My birthday is tomorrow. I don't care much for my birthday. It doesn't seem much of a big deal to me. I dress up and go to a party all for me, everyone looking at me, thinking of me, there for me, they give me things I may or may not use.i don't like being the spot light at least not in my own house. I slip off my heels and lay down on my bed. It felt cool, I like when it does, it soothes me. Before I knew it I was asleep.
