Chapter 2

I used apparition to go to Rose's house. I was standing in the middle of the kitchen.

The popping noise made my Aunt Hermione jump; she had not been expecting me.

"Albus! You scared me!" Aunt Hermione patronized me.

I rolled my eyes and sat down at the kitchen counter on a stool. Aunt Hermione stood across from me.

"Rose is out, I'm afraid-"

"I'm here to talk to you," I bluntly stated.

"Oh," she replied, taken aback. "Well, what is it?"

I took a deep breath. "I dropped out of Hogwarts."

Hermione's face went through different expressions. First her brown eyes were enlarged with amazement (and not the good kind). Then her mouth went into an O shape. Her eyes then tightly closed, and she seemed to be fighting back some words. Finally, her mouth stretched into a line as thin as McGonagall's.

"You what?" Aunt Hermione echoed.

"I dropped out of Hogwarts."

"Why?" The bushy haired witch replied, looking at me dead in the eye.

"Because I want to do something with my life. I want to be known as Albus Potter and not Albus Potter," I shrugged.

"And dropping out of Hogwarts is the best way to do that?" Aunt Hermione arched an eyebrow at me.

I felt a smug smile begin to play on my lips.

"I have plans made already."

"And what, may I ask," Hermione inquired, "are those plans?"

She crossed her arms over her chest as she waited for me to answer.

I chuckled slightly.

"I applied to muggle college, and I got into one, and I'm going there. I leave in the beginning of August," I smugly replied.

"And to which college? A community one?"

I grinned. "Nope. I applied to California Institute of Technology, which is also known as CalTech. And I got in."

"Al, CalTech is in America," Hermione told me.

I rolled my eyes. "I know that."

"Why do you want to go to muggle school?" Hermione asked me, coming around to sit on the stool next to me.

"Because I want to experience life without magic. I want to spend four years in another country. I'll still come back for breaks and summer and everything, and I will call, because when I say no magic, I mean no magic. I'm going to live like a muggle. And I paid the tuition. I used my money at Gringotts, transferred it to American money and paid. I'm set to go. And I will be in one week."

It was at the Burrow the following night that I received the wrath from my grandmother in front of my whole family.

"DROPPED OUT!? WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DROPPED OUT OF HOGWARTS!?" Grandma Weasley yelled, her voice shrill.

"I dropped out," I told her, stating the obvious.

"Albus, what on earth are you going to do?" Grandma demanded an answer.

I smugly grinned. "I already got accepted into a muggle college. CalTech, in America. Now, since I will be living the muggle life, don't owl me. Call me if you want to contact me. And I will come back for breaks and for summer, but don't expect me to be don when the other kids are."

By the end of the week, I was all packed up. I left early in the morning on August ninth, leaving only a note behind for my family:

"Mom, Dad, James and Lily,

I left really early this morning. I have all my stuff, don't worry. I have muggle clothes, plenty of them. Books. I have a cell phone too. I know that you have one Dad, so I'll call you when I get settled in.

I've used apparition to arrive here at CalTech, and that will be the only magic I do for a while. I'll return home by using a plane over Christmas.

I've left my wand in your possession, as I will not be needing it. I trust you enough to keep it safe.

Love,

Al"

I turned on the spot with all of my luggage and belongings in hand.

There was an uncomfortable feeling- almost like I was being pushed through a very slim tube.

I suddenly landed upon my feet and looks around.

It was amazing.

I already loved it without even seeing the whole campus yet.

I made my way over to the sign in.

"Albus Potter," I told the man who was working there. He had old blue eyes and a head of white hair.

"Hello, Mr. Potter," he smiled. "Here's your room key. Your RA, Frank, will check on you and your roommate later tonight."

Within the one and a half month of classes, I finally met the girl of my dreams.

I had been walking with my roommate, Trevor, who had short dirty blonde hair and black rectangular glasses. He, like me, was a seventeen year old. Trevor had a small round piercing in one of his ears. He was due to turn eighteen within a month.

Then I saw her face. She had pale skin and she had red flames travel down her head in waves. Her eyes eyes were a piercing blue green- almost like the sea. She was gorgeous.

I realized then that she was staring right at me. She looked at me with these wide eyes.

"Looks like you've got yourself a lady friend," Trevor smirked at me, his American accent no longer abnormal to me.

"Oh, shut up," I blushed. My voice was loosing it's British touch; it was sounding more American. There still was parts of the English-British vernacular within it, but not as much as before.

"Hi. Uh, you're in my European history, class, right?" The girl asked, her voice nervous.

"Yes... I'm Albus Potter, by the way," I blushed.

"The cute British boy, right?" She smiled.

"Yeah. The cute British boy," I blushed back.

"I'm Alexandra Hamilton. But I go by Alex," Alex blushed.

"Well, you already know my name," I blushed, running a hand through my hair.

"There's this new cafe in downtown Pasadena, and I was wondering if you wanted to go to it with me?" Alex asked, hopeful.

"Like a date?" I blushed.

"Yeah," Alex blushed.

"I'll meet you at 7am tomorrow over here, if you'd like," Alex told me.

"I'd like that. I'll see you then, Alexandra Hamilton."

"Until tomorrow, Albus Potter."
