Prompt: I know this may sound weird but Can you write a story where something bad happens (like a natural disaster or something like that) and one of them experiences the natural disaster while the other is worrying at home. And if you don't mind could you include some of the rest of the cast like you did you're previous short story?
"Why do you keep pacing?" Rowan asked Corey concerned. The two of them, along with Peyton and Amir, had spent the morning together after deciding it had been awhile since they had all seen each other.
Corey ran his hand through his hair. "We have seen the story three times already" he gestured to the television, which was broadcasting the latest news. In a small city in Chicago, there was a natural gas explosion in a family restaurant that was large enough to blow out the windows of the building, start a fire, and cause damage the street below. The issue was that Sabrina was hosting a meet and greet for her music on the same street as the explosion, and by the looks of the footage captured from above, the street currently looked like mayhem. People were running, younger children were crying and those who could not find their friends were screaming for each other. This was all taking place as first responders were attempting to move everyone as far back from the rapidly growing blazes so the fire crew could begin. "How are you not pacing?"
"They have said three times already that the explosion was an accident, the building was empty and there have been no fatalities."
"That doesn't mean she's not injured!"
"Corey" Rowan put her hand on her friend's shoulders in an attempt to stop his pacing and calm him down. "She's fine. All those people there are fine. If anything, maybe some cuts and bruises. At worst, a broken wrist, but other than that everyone is fine." She could tell he was trying hard to believe her. "Okay?"
"Okay," he calmed for a second, sitting down between Peyton and Amir on the couch, rubbing his eyes. Peyton put a comforting hand on Corey's shoulder. The truth was they were all a little worried about their blonde friend, but Corey's romantic feelings for Sabrina manipulated his thoughts, automatically making him believe the worst. While they were worried that Sabrina could be hurt, they knew deep down that she was all right, and would be returning to them the next day like planned.
No more than a minute later, Corey checked his cell phone. He had no missed messages. "She hasn't messaged me back yet." Corey exclaimed. "Or even tried to call. She's always so quick at returning my messages." He stood up again, but did not pace.
"Give her some time" Peyton spoke up. "There is probably so much happening down there right now. We saw all the first responders on the scene, it looks like chaos."
"You will be one of the first people she calls when she gets a chance" Amir said.
oOo
"Corey" Sabrina's voice spoke on the other side of the receiver. Her voice was firm but she sounded tired. It was seven in the morning in Chicago.
"Sabs" At the sound of her voice, his mind was immediately awake. It was five o'clock in the morning in Los Angeles. When Corey awoke to the sound of his cell phone ringing, for a short moment he had forgotten about the previous day's events, but after hearing her voice he was immediately reminded. Corey let out a hard breath. "You're alright?" He meant it more as a statement but it came out like a question.
"Yes I'm fine" she responded.
Corey smiled. Just knowing she was safe made all his previous worries disappear. Even with constant reminders, he feared the worst and knowing he was wrong filled him with great relief.
