William's POV

Lan, Eff and I stood in a small circle. My wife and brother-in-law were both concentrating on their spells; I shook my head and did the same. My Aphrikan world-sensing caused the world to blur out of focus, then jump back, sharper than ever. I could now see the rainbow shimmer of magic surrounding Eff and Lan. I started my spell, and sank myself through the layers of magic until I was in the plane where there was only magic.

there was no Arupan magic, there was no Cathaen Magic, there was no Aphrikan magic; the magic was everywhere, and it was pure, untainted by anything. all of a sudden, I was... ejected from the magic, from the world-sensing, from everything... and then it was just still and silent.

All of a sudden, I heard a cough. that's Eff, I think. is she okay? I have to help her!

"Eff? Are you okay? Where are you?" I called. My thoughts reeled. I sounded like I was 11 again.

"Will? Is that you?" Eff sounded younger too. "Where's Lan?"

"It's me, Eff... I'm not sure where Lan is, just keep talking. I need to find you. Tell me a story?"

"ok, William. Do you remember that time when Lan got mad and held you above the creek with his magic? Robbie ran and ca..." Eff started the story, and I made my way towards her voice.
