SPN- Season 1 Episode 1: Pilot

Chapter Three: He's Gone!

Sam opens the door slowly, to find his brother, Dean Winchester.

"What the hell are you doing here Dean?"

"What's going on Sam?" Jessica appears in the doorway, standing with white shorts, and a The Smurfs shirt.

"Jessica this is my brother Dean. Dean this is my girlfriend, Jessica."

Dean smiles and points at Jessica's shirt and states," I love The Smurfs."

Sam rolls his eyes while his older brother checked out his girlfriend.

"You know Jessica, you're way out of my brother's league." Dean smirks at her.

Jessica looks at Dean awkwardly and says," You know I should get dressed."

Dean smiles again and says," Oh no, I wouldn't even dream of it."

Jessica walks over to Sam and puts her arm over his waist.

"Well Jessica, your boyfriend and I have some family business to talk about, so if you would just, you know, go, that would be nice."

Sam tightens his grip on Jessica's waist and says," Whatever you have to say, you can say it to her."

Dean looks at Sam and says," Ok, well Dad hasn't been home in a few days."

"So? He's always not there, I'm sure he will show up soon!"

"Dad is on a 'hunting trip' and he hasn't been home in a few days."

"Excuse us Jess, my brother and I have to take a step outside."

Dean and Sam walk out the door, Dean leading the way.

"Dean, you can't expect me to drop everything to go and search for Dad, and anyways he's been gone before," said Sam angrily.

"Not this long though," Dean said.

"I'm not going on a hunting trip with you; I promised myself I wouldn't ever do it again."

"Sam, please..." Dean said desperately.

"No Dean! Dad trained us like warriors, ever since Mom died."

Dean smirks and says," Ok, so?"

Sam chuckles and states," Remember that time when I told Dad I was scared of that thing in my closet? Well, ok he gave me a .45!"

"What was he supposed to do?" Dean asked.

"Dean I was nine years old! He was supposed to say,'Don't be afraid of the dark!"

"What do you mean,' Don't be afraid of the dark?' You should be afraid of the dark, you know what's out there!" Dean screamed.

" Yeah, I know, but still he just went crazy with all that shit after Mom died!"

" What Sam? You wanted the 'apple pie life' huh? Is that why you ran away from Dad and I? You just wanted to be normal?"

Sam sighed and said," Not normal, safe."

Dean's face softened and he whispered," Sam, I'm sorry. Can you please just come with me for the weekend to check this case out?"

"Fine, but under one condition, I have to get home before Monday because my interview for law school is on that day."

"Ok, that's fine," Dean muttered.

Dean goes into the car to get newspaper articles about Dad's last hunting trip. Sam reads the articles and his face scrunches up.

"So what you're telling me is that over the past 20 years there have been men disappearances in Jericho, California on Centennial Highway and now they are coming back up again?"

"Yep, that's right, Dean confirmed, Dad checked it out three weeks ago while I was on a voodoo case in New Orleans."

"That was a long time ago," Sam said in shock.

"Yeah, check this out; it's the last voicemail that Dad gave me."

Dean hands over his phone to Sam and he puts it up to his ear to hear more clearly. The voicemail was hard to hear because of all the static, but Sam got it. Dad had said to Dean to be careful and to warn him that we are all in danger. Then the static becomes louder and then you hear a woman's voice whispering, "I can never go home."

"Pack your bags Sammy! We have work to do!"

Sam agrees to go with Dean to California. He goes into the apartment and starts packing his bag. He tells Jessica that he will be gone for a few days, but will be back for the interview on Monday. Jessica kisses Sam and tells him goodbye. He opens the passenger seat car door and drives off with his brother in the Impala while Jessica watches him drive away to Jericho, California.
