I got off the bus, tugging my jacket tighter around me. I looked down and walked toward the building. I hated this place so much. I used to be popular. I used to talk to everyone. I used to be happy. Used to.
As I was thinking about how I used to be I ran into someone. I looked up and my eyes met with- I couldn't believe it- Chase. I hadn't talked to Chase since Christmas Eve of last year. The day of the concert...
"Payton!" He smiled down at me hugging me tightly.
I hugged him back, holding back the urge to cry.
"Hi Chase," I stated simply.
He frowned, "What's wrong with my Payton?" Chase gave me a very sympathetic look.
"N-nothing," I stuttered, "I-I have to go."
I ran into the building with Chase following behind, yelling for me. I didn't turn around. I couldn't.
I quickly got to my locker, putting my things in there and collecting my books. I walked into first period math and sat down. This was going to be boring... Just as I finished my thought the teacher spoke.
"Alright class," she said overly excited, "we will not be having a normal class today or tomorrow or for the next two weeks."
There were a few "huh?"s and "yes!"s from my peers and then she continued.
"We will be coming up with ideas for this year's Winter Dance and setting everything up," she smiled, "Anyone have any ideas? Payton?" She looked right at me, directing the question towards me.
"Uh," I bit my bottom lip, something I do when I'm nervous, "How about winter-wonderland? We could have lights and maybe some fake trees and lots of snow related things."
Everyone looked at me astonished. That was the most I've ever spoken except for answering a question. They began to clap and I blushed, looking down.
"Perfect!" The teacher smiled.
Class soon ended and I walked to the library. I had a free period and always spent it there. I had grown on it really. The librarian was so kind to me and let me take out anything I wanted.
I got to the library and smiled at Ms. Lafiet. I took my usual seat at a table toward the back and began reading my new book. I was in the middle of reading when a soft voice interrupted me making me jump.
"Hey Pay...," it was Chase.
"H-hey..," I stuttered again, mentally face palming.
"Listen, about earlier, are you alright?" He looked at me with pleading eyes.
"No," I simply stated the truth.
I then found myself telling him EVERYTHING. I told him how after the concert I had crashed, killing Olivia. I told him how I would never drive again and that I hadn't hardly spoken or done anything. I told Chase how I pushed myself away from everyone. By the time I was finished I was balling.
Chase embraced me in a warm hug and I cried into his chest.
