"Oh no. Oh no, no, no" I moan staring down at the two pink lines staring back at me.
This isn't happening, this cannot be happening, I think in devastation.
My head falls into my hands as I drop the white test that just told me my future, I sit rocking back and forth in a bathroom stall shaking. I take the white stick in my hands and hold it up again like I can't believe this is happening. But it is, and there is nothing I can do.
I'm pregnant.A sharp ringing sound jolts me to attention, end of lunch.
Time to go back to class.I sigh heavily fighting the urge to hurl my lunch from my stomach, I glance down and gingerly caress my belly I take another deep breath sticking the test deep in my bag and hurrying to class.
Even though I was barely late others were still finding their seats the ringing voice of my least favourite History teacher Miss Robinson shrieks at me, "Miss Quinzel WHY are you late again?"I grumble at her in my head, "miss I'm sorry I had to come all the way from across the school, and others haven't found seats yet I'd like to say.." I trail off staring hard at my feet.
She snorts loudly, "oh very well, just don't let it happen again" she snaps harshly before resuming her seat shuffling papers.I quickly find my seat next to my best friend Margo Twill, we roll our eyes at each other before taking our books out. I feel an unpleasant lurching feeling of guilt in my belly, I'll have to tell her eventually.. But not yet I decide.
The rest of class passes without much more drama although I dazed off slightly and failed to answer Miss Robinson when she asked me what Napoleon died for or when, I was so glad when we finished.
"Gods can you believe her, I really don't know why she has it in for you Harley," she smirks at me.
"Ehh I know, geez she's such a bitch Nuggie," I giggle at her.
Margo rolls her eyes but grins fondly at me, we chat excitedly all the way back to LakeLil St.Margo Twill has been my best friend for almost 6 years now, she moved to GreenBoe with her family right next door to me when she and I were just 11.
We weren't friends right away, in fact I didn't like her at all when she came to the same school as me. She was already dazzling, long straight brown hair, fair skin all dimples and perfect teeth, her eyes were like an ocean blue that seemed to darken to stormy grey when she was mad. Then there's me overly pale with strawberry-blonde hair that curled which I hated, grey eyes and a huge clutz. I was jealous and instantly thought her a snobby show off especially when she could do well in all sports when I couldn't.Honestly it was only when we got to high school at age 12 we got into a huge fist fight, over a game of badminton of all things. I was on the same team as her she in the front, me just behind her, when I was up to serve I missed and whacked her head hard with my racket. She literally exploded turning on me and pouncing, the couch yelled for us to stop but we mutely ignored him. We fought dirty the pair of us, biting, pulling hair, kicking and punching, neither of us were holding back. It was only when we had both run out of steam both supporting pretty fantastic cuts and bruises we both burst out laughing. We've been best friends ever since, although we've gotten into a fair few tiffs over the years we always come back laughing as we did the first time though we've never had another fist fight.
"Harleen Quinzel am I going to have to drop kick you right here?" Margo calls.
"Huh?" I look around me realising we are out front of our houses, "oh! No sorry Margo I was thinking.. Slipped into a daze sorry." I glance apologetically over to where she's tapping her foot impatiently, she tilts her head and squints suspiciously at me.
She shrugs, "it's okay Harlequin" she grins at me and I grin back at her nickname for me it definitely suits me, "I'll text you tonight, or not if ya gonna be weirding out on me again" she waggles her eyebrows suggestively at me.
I squeal and smack her arm playfully, "maggot you can shut ya trap now or maybe I'll drop you on YOUR ass!"
We break into a fit of giggles before hugging and going our seperate ways.I wait for her to go inside before breathing a sigh of relief, I've managed to keep this a secret, I fold my hand over my belly as I look down closing my eyes, but not for long.
I walk up the path to my house upset that I'm even keeping a secret from Margo even if it is for a day.Hello my lovely readers, I'm trying something new here and I hope you like it.
