Part One of Three
Wednesday, February 20 2013. 5:32am.
One day in the bright city of San Diego, a girl just turned 16 years old. Her name? Stacy, Stacy McGivens. Who is she? She's just a girl, like any other girl. Why does she matter? Because, she is me. Hi, I'm Stacy McGivens and I just turned 16 like a couple hours ago. It's 5:30 am and you're probably wondering why I'm writing about myself at this point in time but it's because for my new years resolution I said I was going to write about the days in my life, what happens, what I see, who I speak to, good or bad I said I was gonna write about it. No, this is not a journal or a diary or whatever you'd like to call it because it's not okay? This is my new years resolution and I intend on pulling through with it even though it's two months into the year already. All I'm really trying to say is that it's my birthday. I'm awake because it's a school day and I woke up before my own alarm, even though nothing special is going to happen today. Yes I'm turning 16, the sweet sixteen but you know, I'm not rich and I'm not poor so I surely can't afford to have some big ol' birthday bash. And besides, I don't want anyone to know about my birthday besides my family and the friends that have known from my earlier years. Honestly, today all I'm looking forward to is for the guy I like, who was also my valentine and a very good friend of mine, to tell me happy birthday. I mean, I don't think he even knows that today is my birthday but still, it'd be nice to be honest. Well, whatever. Just gonna go put on some random outfit, wake up my two little sisters and just go to school. Honestly, there is no expectation for today. I don't expect anyone to tell me happy birthday or expect anyone to come and hand me a gift or poster. That's what I surely KNOW is not going to happen so I guess it'll just be a normal day. Yeah, sadly. Just a normal day.
Stacy threw the journal on her desk and left to wake up her sisters. It was 6:10 by now so it was right about time to wake them up. First, her littlest sister Mary Anne, whose room is across the hall, who has to get ready for a day in the 5th grade. And secondly, her other little sister Jessica, whose room is next to herself, who has to get up and get ready for a day as a freshmen in high school. After waking those two up she went back to her room, grabbed the brush on her desk next to the printer and stood infront of the mirror attached to her desk so she can brush her hair. Brushed her bangs and her crown first. Because her hair has grown inches since she had cut it last, the beginning of her freshmen year, it was long and thick. After that, she split her hair in two and brushed one side at a time. Walked to the opposite corner of her room, put on shoes that would work with what she was wearing, looked in the mirror then unplugged her charging iPhone 4, grabbed her backpack lazily then went to her living room. After dropping her backpack next to the coffee table she walked into the kitchen to the cabinet, grabbed the cereal, grabbed the milk from the fridge then grabbed a bowl and spoon. After getting a bowl of cereal, she turned on the TV and changed it to Teenick because it was the only channel that would play decent shows that early. While she ate her cereal, her sisters came one at a time, wondered the kitchen, looked at her said "Happy birthday Ateh!" then ate and soon enough we left for school with their father.
Her day so far, it was normal. Like any other day really. But this was only the first hour of her day, so who knows? A lot can happen in just one day.
When she got to school she went to the place she hung out every morning: some bench near the quad of the school. Her friend, Elijah was already there like he always was so she went and sat down with him. Before she sat with him and she got close enough to talk, he said calmly, "Happy birthday Stacy." She just smiled and told him thanks. "You actually remembered my birthday?" she asked him once she sat down. "Well yeah, I did. You said it last month and I just remembered it last night." her replied to her. She kind of laughed then just said okay, then they moved on from the topic.
Five minutes after regular conversation, one other friend after another just started to come like always. And every single one would say, right about the same thing: "Hey Stacy, isn't it your birthday today? Oh, well happy birthdayyy!," "Oh, it's your birthday today? Happy birthday Stacy!," "Hey, guess who's finally 16? YOU ARE! HAHA happy birthday." She replied the same to all of them which was: "Thanks, I really don't want it to be such a big deal though." while having a smile on her face. After hearing all the happy birthdays and then finally talking about random things, having conversation, the bell had finally rung. It was time to actually start the school day.
First period Math, she gets through the class without falling asleep. Second period Biology, she gets through the class without asking so much questions. Third period English, she gets through the day without getting called on. Fourth period PE is where all the fun stuff happens, where most of the fun stuff happens; where most of it happens anyways.
Stacy walked to the locker room with her best guy friend, Richard. They had the same PE period and the same PE teacher so they walked together everyday. She walked into the locker room, walked by her good friend Chaires (prenounced share) locker where no one was, and got to her locker. Said hi to the friends next to her, one of which she tried out for basketball with then kinda stopped talking about close stuff like that. Once she finished changing she waited for Chaire at her locker; she always took so long to change and get ready so Stacy was always waiting for her.
"Happy birthday Stacy, I remembered your birthday." She said once she got to her and sat on the bench; Stacy thanked her. "Are you gonna do anything for your birthday? Because if you're not, me, you and Richard can finally go out to eat!" she said after Stacy thanked her for the greeting.
"Well, I don't think my parents remembered my birthday so we might as well go out today." she replied.
"What? Your parents didn't greet you or anything?" she asked in a shocked tone. Stacy replied saying no. "Well, it's only half way through the day so they might mention it once you get home from school." she continued. Stacy just shrugged. They went out of the locker room, walked to Richard and the two freshmen that they also talked to. Richard and the two freshmen greeted Stacy a happy birthday and soon enough the PE teachers came out so we had to go to our different teachers and get lined up for attendance. While on the walk to the area where Richard, Chaire and Stacy had to take attendance, Chaire mentioned going out for Stacy's birthday.
Richard agreed to the idea, "I do have the car today so we can if you guys want." Chaire and Stacy bothed agreed and said that Stacy has the final say since it's her birthday. The period went on with the many laughs, the messing around and everything. Stacy thought herself that it was probably the best thing that happened so far that day. The bell rang to go to the locker rooms and get dressed. After that, it was finally lunch.
It was a regular lunch time: same people, same spot. The only difference was that it was a different day and that there was different conversation. After the sometimes short and sometimes long thirty minutes of lunch, it was time for Stacy to get to her Spanish class. She always thought good or bad things about that class. One day it'd be the best part of her day, other days it'd be the most annoying class of the day, then the rest is just an okay day. Today, it was just ordinary. Her sixth period and her last, AP European history. She hated that class so much, after like a month of that class she gave up trying to learn in there. All they did in that class was usually lecture, there's nothing fun about lecturing everyday.
