At first, everyone thought it would be alright. But when is it ever?

15 years ago, a human named Frisk was the 8th child to fall into Mt. Ebott, the 7th soul to break the barrier. After millennia of waiting - some less patiently than others - the monsters were freed from the shackles of the Underground. Said less-patient monsters were driven with a strong need for revenge, a strong hatred for humanity, which quickly turned to blood lust and greed as soon as they felt the sun on their faces, saw what they had been missing out on for too many years to count. Of course, everything went downhill.

One year after the monsters arrived on the Surface, the riots started. Nothing much in the beginning, really; peaceful protests. Monster booing human leaders and officials, humans holding up signs when Frisk or Asgore showed their faces.

Then, the first fist-fight between races. Then, the first gunshots ran out in the night. The first death. Mobs and gangs roaming the streets, out to kill. Attempted assassinations of the President, King, Queen, Ambassador, General. Some working, some not. Fights becoming a daily thing, people becoming accustomed to pain and hunger.

The day King Asgore of the Monsters died, was the day you were born into this hell-hole of a planet.

You grew up in the city with your parents and siblings, fearing for your life. When you were 10 years old, your parents abandoned you to fend for yourself on the streets with your sisters Isabel and Elizabeth. Age 11, Isabel died, just a little, innocent 5-year-old. Some grown man attacked her in an alleyway, took her stuff, and shot her fatally in the abdomen. Age 12, you're all alone, Elizabeth ran away from wretched place, thank god. Age 13, now your running for your life from the world. Oh! And a stranger in a dark alleyway.

THUD. You trip, but you keep going, light on your feet. You feel the person behind you closing the distance between the two of you, and you put on a burst of speed. You are filled with

DETERMINATION.

Your name is Amber. You are a weak, starving 13-year-old with long, wavy, black hair, unnatural silver eyes, and an extraordinarily fucked-up backstory. You live in the ruins of New York, basically the epitome of horrible. Gangs and mobsters rule the streets at night, at least 5 people die every day. At least.

"Hey! Come back, little girl!" your pursuer calls. Probably trying to trick you into stopping so he can give you 'food,' which is nine times out of ten drugs, or poison, so he can capture you for his gang or something. You never know.

"Come on! Stop, I can help you!" he yells again. Judging by his voice, he's a 17 year old male human. But what do you know? Your just a poor little self-taught killer. All alone, murdering people. You don't feel bad for yourself, really. Actually, you kinda lost any feeling after Elizabeth left. But whatever.

You scale the side of a small building, lying in wait for the boy halfway to the top. Hey, whaddya know, your assumption was right. You swoop down upon the unsuspecting human, an eagle hunting down it's prey with sharp eyes. Your black shirt billows out behind you, wind whistling through your hair as you leap from the building. Your small knife gleams silver, and then red as you slit his throat.

No time to waste. You grab his bag and run, silent on your boots. You hope no one heard your victim's short scream, but better to be safe than sorry. You just need to make it to your little base thing you have, then you can eat your newfound rations. Fear rules your brain, and nothing else.

Such is the nature of this world.

A/N

I apologize for such a short chapter. It's only a prologue, so I'm hoping to make all of my other chapters 900+ words at a minimum. A girl can wish. Hope you enjoyed!
