Author's Note:

So like I said in the previous chapter, the first so many chapters were written when I was young, so they aren't that great. I didn't edit them, so I apologize for any grammatical and spelling errors. But when you copy and paste things onto here, all the italics and holds disappear and I don't want to go and look for where they were supposed to be. Plus, if I read through this to edit it, I'll probably change my mind on wanting to post it. So, yeah, just enjoy!

Forever After,

***********

Leaning over him was Kat, her hand holding his own. Her eyes were a little shiny.

"Oh, thank God! James, you're awake!" She hugged him and kissed him gently on the forehead.

He didn't understand what she was talking about but when he tried to ask, he felt a pain in his chest. He looked down and saw a tube inserted in his wrist, and traced it back to the IV bag. He went to sit up but stopped when pain flew throughout his body.

"Stop!" Kat exclaimed, "Your hurt, you idiot! Don't make it worse! Pain meds only go so far, you know!"

"What happened? How did I get hurt?" James was frantic. "Where am I? Who am I?" It hit him out of nowhere. He couldn't remember anything. "Kat? What's happened? I cant remember my own name?" His chest seared with pain. Every word he spoke stung like salt was being pored down his throat. He groaned.

"James Taylor! Shut the hell up!" And that's what he did. He knew his name now. James Taylor. He liked it. However, he couldn't remember anything about himself. His favorite color, his hobbies. He couldn't even remember his dream. The only thing his mind knew, was Kat. "How do you remember me, James? Never mind. Don't answer."

She got up and grabbed a pen and a piece of paper. 'Thank you,' he wrote. Then he added, 'I have no clue. I have no clue on anything. I feel blank.'

"Oh," she said, "Do you remember your mom? She just left to go get me some food. I've refused to leave your side, but she demanded I eat. She left about twenty minutes ago. She ought to be back soon enough. She'll be so happy to see you awake."

James wanted to say how excited he was to meet her, though he realized how stupid he would sound. He looked around the room, shocked by every sight. It was an ordinary hospital room, but everywhere you looked you saw bright colors and balloons saying 'get well soon' or 'we miss you'. There was a pile of cards on the stand next to him, all with his name on them.

"You know, a lot of people came to visit you," Kat said, "I mean, I knew you were popular, but wow! They're who brought all the stuff your staring at." She paused and reached into her purse, "I brought you this." She handed a card to James. It was in a bright green envelope with his name written on the back. The handwriting was like calligraphy. He traced his name with his finger, feeling happy just staring at her handwriting.

"Well open it!" Kat exclaimed.

And he did open it. He pulled out a birthday card. At first he was puzzled. Why would someone get a birthday card for a sick person? Then, it hit him. His eyes welled up with tears. When they were in first grade, they wanted to get each other Christmas cards, but they both waited till like a month after Christmas and so the stores had none. So instead they got each other birthday cards. Every holiday since they've gotten each other birthday cards.

He looked up at Kat. She wore a smile as a single tear slid down her face.
James Taylor made the stupid move of saying, "I've never seen you cry."
