I started running faster and faster after the rabbit, until we reached the rabbit hole. I looked down at the rabbit and he nodded assuring me that it was going to be okay, he hopped into the black hole that looked never ending and before I knew it I could no longer see him. I had to admit I was nervous, I hadn’t done this in so long, I took a deep breath finally gaining the courage i jumped in.
Its hard to explain what exactly happens when you jump down a rabbit hole but I guess I could say its like jumping into a cold and dark black hole. I flinched as I hit the ground on my shoulder “ouch” I rubbed my eyes with my cold, clammy fingers and pushed myself up rubbing my shoulder. I stood up looking around the room for the rabbit, but he was no where to be seen. I had no idea where to go after standing their for ten minutes contemplating which way to go I finally came to the conclusion to go straight, I looked left and right, everything just looked the same I didn’t know where I was, or where to go. I kept walking down this long hall that felt like it was going on forever, the walls had a bunch of writing on it, weird. I finally came to the end of the hallway where I found a door, there was only one problem it was the tiniest door in existence. I sighed and crossed my arms “how the hell am I going to get through there?” I said to myself. I knelt down to get a better look at the door where I saw another rolled up piece of paper stuck to the knob I untied it and opened it;
My beautiful baby girl,
Your almost in, remember what I gave you, remember small is a ball and large is a heart.
Daddy
I held the note in my hands and turned to sit with my back to the wall, I don’t remember anything about the door, the door to wonderland always looked so big to me when I was little. I shut my eyes hoping maybe I would remember, when a vision came up in my head of my dad giving me one of his famous lollies, “THAT’S IT!” I jumped up in excitement, I opened my backpack pulling out the two lollies my father had left before he disappeared, I held both the large and the small lollies in each hand contemplating which one to eat, I once again sighed and read the note over in my head again. I laughed realising my father was trying to make a riddle that was kind of successful until he tried rhyming large with heart, and then it hit me “IM SUCH AN IDIOT!” it was so obvious, as clear as day in front of me, how could I be so stupid. I put the large lolly back in my bag and unwrapped the multi-coloured, sweet smelling lolly I popped it in my mouth, and it bring back memories, the nice sweet taste against my tounge made me feel warm, made me feel like my father was still here next to me.
I was too focused on my mind that I realised I was shrinking, either that or the room was getting bigger. When I finally stopped shrinking I looked down at the knob and turned it, I took a deep breath and pushed the door forward, and suddenly I saw wonderland. But it wasn’t like it used to be it was black, dark, cold. What happened to this place I used to call magical, and beautiful and….. home. I held my hand over my mouth trying to keep my emotions together, I felt my eyes watering and I looked at the gate that said ‘Wonderland’ it was black everything was black. I ran my fingers through my hair and then fell to me knees, I blamed myself for this, if I came back this would of never happened! “you’re an idiot, look what you’ve done” I repeated over and over talking to myself.
When I finally got a hold of myself, I got up and walked towards the gate, “I’m going to find you dad, even if it’s the last thing I do” I said while wiping the last tear off my cheek and then pushing the gate open, I stoped and looked around to where I saw the rabbit sitting near what looked like a burnt tree, I quickly ran over to him “What happened? Why didn’t you look after wonderland?” the rabbit looked up at me, then stood up on its hind legs and said “it’s the red queen” I stood back in shock, I didn’t remember much from Wonderland but I certainly would of thought that I would of remembered rabbits talking! “O…oh um who’s that?” he rubbed his eyes with his paws and looked back up at me “don’t you remember Alice?” I looked at him confused and said “when daddy and I came there was never any red queen” he looked down at his watch and said “she’s your step mother” I looked at him and laughed, “what are you talking about rabbit, I don’t have a step mother” I found this extremely funny as what would he be talking about my real mothers back at home and she’s my only mother. He looked at me and said “you don’t really believe your mother back home, is away for so long just to work in the real world do you?” I nodded my head and raised my eyebrows “uh duh” I said, “She is your step mother Alice, she is the Red Queen”
I froze in shock, i just stood there until the rabbit came up to me and tugged on my leg asking if I was okay. I snapped out of my state of shock “But h..how?” he looked down at his feet “we cant talk anymore, we need to go find your dad, he will explain everything” I nodded and followed him.
