Chapter 6

Liam really hated Dave. Why couldn't he go to sleep? He needed to go to the basement at midnight, but no... Dave had to be a bloody nocturnal freak for once in his bloody life. Usually he'll just sleep all day and night - even in class. He was shockingly lethargic – but no, tonight he was wide awake and bloody hyperactive as well, and Liam was pissed. He had places to be, places Dave could not find out about.

"Do you ever wonder what it would be like to be a bat?" Dave asked, 11:55 pm. Liam needed to leave now if he didn't want to be late. He sat on his bed, on edge, thinking frantically about what he could do. He could not afford to get Ryan mad at him.

"No, no I fucking don't!" He snapped, trying to come up with an escape plan.

"I do." Dave said stupidly, making Liam wonder where he could find a piano to throw on him.

"That's it. I'm leaving." Liam came up with a plan quickly, leaping onto his feet.

"Where?" Dave asked dumbly, sitting up on his bed

"To find a bird, or at least someone who'd be better company than you." Liam muttered, knowing Dave would take offence but not caring. Besides, Liam went to find a girl every other night, so he knew he was safe and wouldn't rouse suspicion. He grabbed his red jacket and went.

He came face to face to Harry once he was out of the door, and his spirit sank even further at the stern look his friend was giving him.

"Dude, where the hell have you been?!" Harry hissed.

"Bloody Fat Ginger decided to become nocturnal." Liam muttered.

"Well, come on. Ry's pissed at you." Of course he was. He was the Supreme Leader, and Liam was his prime target when it came to fucking things up in this school.

Turns out that letter were an invite to the oldest cult in the school, and Bex was honored to be invited to it. It turned out that Karris was also a member, thank God – that meant Bex at least knew someone there. Only ten could be members at a time, so it was an incredible honor to be asked to join – it meant you had something worthwhile to offer, it meant you were thought highly of… It meant you had power. The Red Gang knew everything about everything and everyone at the school, and they basically controlled it. They met at the start of every month to discuss who needed punishment, or praise, and they dealt with them.

Punishment was a shockingly bad month, and praise was an amazing month at the school. That meant anything was game.

Bex soon found out that Liam Nielson, and Harry Andrews were members as well, and apparently they were keys here when it came to girls – which didn't surprise her, at all; it actually explained a lot. If they fawned over them, and they got 'praise', the boys 'surprisingly' suddenly took interest in the girls. But, according to Karris, Liam actually did like Clara, and it had nothing to do with this.

Also, she learned that the cult thing was like family. They all had each other's backs. They were all connected by some oath. Once in, they were bound. Until a few years back, they had to become 'blood brothers' but it caused a lot of issues because it turned out this one guy had HIV, and yeah… so that wasn't a thing anymore.

Of course, their only job wasn't to look over students, they also caused mischief.

Every monthly meeting, they got a task, and if they didn't complete that task by the end of the month, they had to have detention by ex-members of the cult/clan, Mr Fletchley and Mr Jones. And this detention wasn't just your average detention.

Once initiation was completed by Supreme Leader Ryan Smith, he handed everyone their specific task for the week. Bex grinned at hers:

Get your roommate pissed off at you.
