"Bianca Rodgers for LA 11.." I ended my report with a smile. I scoff, snatching the ear piece out of my ear. "This is bullshit." I say to my camera man, Griff.
"You did great B." He says sweetly.
I flash him a grin, "Thanks Old Man," he chuckles at my longtime nickname for him. "I just wish Cory would stop giving me these sugar stories' give me something good! People don't care about a music festival right now. Especially with that Michael Jackson trial about to happen..." I sigh.
Griff wraps up his cables stuffing them into the camera bag, "Talk to Cory again. I'm sure if you bug him as hard as you have been you'll get the story you want." He says placing the camera into the news truck.
Hopping into the passenger seat I go through my notes from the different interviews I had taken. "Anything good?" Griff laughs.
I smirk at him, "of course. But it's not what I want. I'm gonna talk to Cory as soon as we get back to the station." I nod.
"Bianca, awesome report today. Great coverage!" Cory claps loudly, bringing his arm around my shoulder. I give a phony smile, twitching my shoulder to signal him to remove his arm.
Cory, my station manager, was the most obnoxious, narcissistic, arrogant man I had ever worked for. He thought he was the best thing to happen to anyone's life he came across, and to make matters worse, he had a thing for me.
"I've got another story I want you to cover for me. As soon as I heard it, I instantly thought of you." Cory says, as I follow behind him in his office.
I sigh sarcastically, "oh please let it be another music festival. I'm dying to know."
He flops into his chair, placing his feet on his desk. "You're cute when you're submissive." He says smugly.
I roll my eyes and groan, flopping in the chair behind me. "Cory, I really want that trial, you know I can handle it." I whine.
"Oh I don't like that.. that whiny thing you're doing.. no, that's not sexy at all." He frowns.
I groan, "seriously, who else is as hungry a reporter as me! Give me that press pass into the courthouse. I won't let you down."
He places his hand to his chin, "Bianca, you're assigned to cover the health expo. If you wow me.. I'll think about it."
I sigh, "fine.." unenthused, I shut his office door behind me.
"How'd it go?" Griff asked, his eyes wilted with concern.
I simply shake my head, maintaining eye contact with the ground. "I'll see you tomorrow Griff." Grabbing my coat, I head out to my car and drive home.
Walking inside my apartment, I kick my shoes off and flop on my couch, checking my voicemails.
"Hey Bianca, its mommy. Just wanted to say you did excellent on tv today. Your father and I are so proud of you! Call me later!"
I delete the message, and prepare myself for a night of sleep. The television on in the background I hear one of my colleagues, Cara Mia reporting. "The Murray trial is now finished choosing the jury and will commence Monday. It's unknown if Conrad Murray will be taking the stand during the trial."
"It's unknown who's gonna be reporting the damn trial because the manager is an asshole. You and I both know it Cara.." I mumble to the tv before fading off.
The next morning, I walk into the station, my eyes covered with tinted glasses and a cup of coffee in my hand. When I arrive to my desk, I find a folded note. "What is this?" I frown. As I open the note, the courtroom press pass slips out onto my desk. My eyes widen with excitement and I squeal with delight.
I burst into Cory's office, "Thank you! Thank you!!" I scream, hugging him tightly.
"Yeah you're welcome. Thank your cameraman. He came in a little after you left, put in a good word for you. You've got two days to study up and get ready for the court date on Monday."
I nod happily, "I will not let you down Cory."
"I reassigned Trey to your health expo assignment, so you can get all the time you need."
After heading back to my desk, I hug Griff tightly. "I love you Old Man!! I can't believe you did that for me."
"You deserve it!" He smiles back, "just be ready for your big break!"
I got back to my desk and studied everything about the Murray trial. Learning all the details I could, I buried my face into my computer determined to be ready for the trial.
