It was just another beautiful morning. Birds are singing their pleasant tunes as the soft breeze blows by with the slight scent of spring flowers.
My family lives and works at the fast food restaurant, Kochikara. My mom always works the deep fryer with all the hot, bubbling, cooking oil that fries the slim potato rods, or as we should call them, french fries.
People come and go so quickly that by the time one person orders, you can go upstairs for a bathroom break, come down, and my mothers already done with four other people.
My name is Lyra by the way. I'm only about
7-years old. My sister, Mika, who is 4-years old, has her birthday tomorrow.
The sun is bright outside as we play. There are close to no cloud out in the sky... it's the perfect day.
My sister is so excited to be 5-years old tomorrow! You can see the excitement on her face. She thinks that when the clock hits twelve, she's finally an adult. She's so adorable, thinking that she's older than me because her birthday's in July and mines in December. What a silly little girl. She doesn't understand that I'm still three years older than her.
The night comes quick and mother tell us to come in and head to sleep. We get dressed in our nightgowns and get in our beds.
"The faster you go to bed, the faster your birthday will arrive!" Says mother, with that soothing voice of hers. "Good night." She says as she closes the door, leaving the lights on.
"Tell me a story! Oh, please tell me one, big sissy!" Mika said. Her front teeth feel out about two weeks ago. Now her T's sound like S's.
"Alright..." I whisper as she snuggles up against me. We sleep in the same bed too so... this is normal for us. "Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess named..."
"MIKA!" She shouts.
"...Mika. Who fell in love with a prince. The prince was tall and lean and had proper etiquette. Mika loved the prince so much that she thought about him all the time. But... but she didn't know that the prince had fell in love with Mika's sister, Lyra..."
"Zzz..." She's already asleep? I haven't even gotten to the part when the prince kisses me...
"Good night, Mika." I say in the softest whisper. I kissed her on the forehead, got up to turn of the lights and sat back down in the dark room which was only lit up with a faint light coming from the window.
I lay down prepared to sleep, pulling the blanket up to cover me, yawn slightly and shut my eyes, drifting into a deep sleep.
