Operation PHOENIX

Death all around!!

"Mom? Mom? Wake up!!! Mom!!!" I took my cell phone and dialled the emergency helpline for an ambulance. There was no reply. Why the hell do they call it emergency helpline if they can't even reply.

I shouted for my brother Louis. He did not respond. I went to his room and knocked frantically. Still no response!! I yelled for what felt like hours to no avail.

I went to my Father's room. I saw him just standing there. There was something wrong with him. I went closer to him to tell him about mom but he did not react. He didn't even blink. I looked in his eyes. They were empty........of emotion, compassion, pain. There was nothing in those eyes. He looked like a robot.

Suddenly he raised his hands and clasped my neck. I couldn't react at first but then his grip got tighter and I could not breathe. My survival instinct kicked in and I just punched him in the guts. But he didn't even flinch. It was like he didn't feel anything. I was running out of air. I had to do something. As a last ditch effort, I gathered all my strength and kicked him away. As soon as I was free of his grasp, I ran away from the room and locked the door from the outside.

I just could not understand what the hell was happening. Mom was lying on the kitchen floor motionless, Louis was not opening the door and my dad.......he just tried to kill me!!!! My mind was racing at the speed of light as to what all this means.

I went to the kitchen and checked on mom. I checked her pulse. I could not find her pulse. Tears were rolling down my eyes continuously now. I checked if she was breathing.......she wasn't!!!!!! I checked her heartbeat......there was no beat!!!! I checked twice, thrice but I couldn't believe it. This cannot happen. I was just talking to her a few minutes ago. She was completely fine. How can she die. This is not true. I don't believe it.

And then it struck me!! It was a dream, nothing else! There was no other explanation! But it felt so real. No it isn't real. I will just wake up and mom will make me my favourite dish. I pinched myself hard so as to wake up from this horrendous nightmare. Nothing happened. I tried again, still nothing. Oh No!!! This can't be true! This can't be real.

I sat there for hours just looking at my mother's face. At least it felt like hours to me. Suddenly my phone started ringing. I checked to see who it was. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw it was Kiara. Just the person I could talk to in such a disastrous situation.

I picked up her call. She was crying. She was trying to say something but I couldn't make it out in between all the crying. I asked her to stop crying for a minute and tell me everything clearly.
"Alex.....my parents.......they are......they are.....DEAD!!!!" I could not say anything. We both just cried to each other.

After sometime I told her about my mom and dad and Louis. She was shocked. I asked her to call the ambulance but she said she already tried. They didn't reply. I knew this wasn't the time to mourn, it was time to figure out what the hell was going on!!

I asked her to stay calm and wait for me to come to her home. I went to Louis' room and knocked again.....no reply!! I remembered that mom kept a spare key to each room in the hall. I went to the hall and found the spare key. I went to my brother's room and unlocked it. As soon as I went in, my breath stopped. The same scene was in front of me again, just Louis was in my mom's place. I went closer to check him, no pulse and no heartbeat. My brother, too, was dead!!
