Anthony: Chapter 6

I'm sitting next to Bryan in calculus class, staring at the back of Shea's head. We're supposed to be taking a quiz, but instead, I'm watching Shea. She's texting away furiously on her cellphone, and she lifts her head every 10 seconds to make sure that Mrs. Tyler isn't watching her. I wonder who she's texting? I wish she'd text me sometime, damn. I gave her my number last week after we kissed, but she hasn't texted me. Normally, I don't hesitate to text girls first, but I can't text Shea first, because SHE HASN'T TEXTED ME HER NUMBER YET!

I notice that the captain of the basketball team isn't in class today; the seat next to Shea is empty. Damn, I would give anything to be able to sit next to her right now. Ever since we kissed, she's been affectionate, but she hasn't really talked to me about what that kiss meant for us. Sometimes, she hugs me, runs her fingers through my hair, kisses me on the cheek, and rubs my back when we're alone, but she won't initiate a conversation about that kiss, and it's really bugging me. She's a girl, and girls are supposed to want to talk about stupid shit, like the significance of first kisses! The one time that I want a girl to get sentimental, and lovey dovey, and attached, SHE DOESN'T! And to make matters worse, in school, she acts like she doesn't even know me! You know what, fuck it. I'm going to get her to acknowledge me, and I've got the perfect plan.

I overtly slide my desk towards Bryan's, and it makes a loud screech. I smile just a little when Mrs. Tyler looks over at me from her desk at the front of the classroom.

"Dude! Duuuuuude!" I whisper obnoxiously as I dramatically wave my hand in front of Bryan's face. He doesn't answer me, so I poke him in his side to get his attention.

"What the hell, man!" He snaps as he looks up at me from his game of candy crush. The whole class turns to stare at us, but I pretend to be oblivious.

"What's the answer to number 4?" I ask. I'm not even attempting to whisper any more. I'm surprised that Mrs. Tyler hasn't called me out already. Bryan is gawking at me with his mouth open. He probably doesn't even know that we're supposed to be taking a quiz right now. He's on level 200 of candy crush saga, and it takes a lot of dedication. He plays that game like it's his job. I guess I'll have to repeat myself.

"You know, number 4; it says find the derivative of 7x-" Mrs. Tyler stands up from her desk, abruptly, and I stop talking and stare at her like a deer in headlights. I feel like an evil genius; my plan's definitely working.

"Mr. Donetelli!" Mrs. Tyler barks. Her hairy nostrils flare, and I have to bite the inside of my cheek to keep myself from laughing at her. "This is not a group quiz!" I blush, and freeze in my seat with my hand on Bryan's quiz.

"Oh?" I stutter. I swear, I should win an Emmy Award. My acting skills are superb right now.

"Since you can't seem to behave back there, next to your buddy, Mr. Evans," Mrs. Tyler points her stubby sausage finger at Bryan as she continues to berate me, "You can come sit up here, in this empty seat next to Miss Cruz." I smirk inwardly. Mission accomplished. Mrs. Tyler is do predictable; she played right into my plan! But I'm not finished yet.

"Who the hell is Miss Cruz?" I ask. Of course I know that she's talking about Shea Cruz, but since Shea wants to act like she doesn't know me, I'll act like I don't know her. Mrs. Tyler scowls at me and waddles over to Shea.

"This, is Mrs. Cruz, Mr. Donetelli," She places her swollen sausage hand on Shea's shoulder, and Shea flinches. She doesn't like being touched by people she doesn't respect.
