Still Hurting

The gray clouds let barely any light seep through them, covering the world like a blanket. Except, it wasn't comforting.

These gray clouds left a deep pit in Charles' stomach. It was as if the whole day was meant to be dark.
The dark ink on the letter he gripped onto with his trembling hands, his dark hair falling over his dark eyes, and the overall darkness that filled his empty home. If it could basically even be considered a home.

He took in a shaky breath to regain his barely existent composure, letting down the paper gently onto the desk. His fingers trailed quietly over the wood, remembering the countless nights he'd spent with Sam while Sam worked on his drafts- always seeming to write.

He tapped the table as a soft smile played onto his lips. Charles was known to be rather emotional, even irrational. But, he believed that at this moment, he couldn't have been thinking clearer.

"Samuel's decided it's time to move on,"he whispered, brows furrowed and voice quivering."Am I still hurting?"
His voice trailed off. Charles couldn't believe he was actually speaking to himself. Was he really that lonely? Already?

Charles let his hands fall to his side, balled into fists."Should I call him?-- maybe even text? No, that wouldn't change the fact.."He laughed, his hands falling free from his fists and his legs slowly pushing him towards his bedroom."That wouldn't speed the time.. Once the foundations cracked and I'm--"He ran his fingertips across his wedding ring, wincing.

"I'm still hurting, right?"he called out- as if he expected an answer.

His head hung low- ears straining for even the slightest hint Sam was going to come back- He had to come back.

Charles' eyes stung as tears once again threatened to spill from his eyes. He remembered the first time they actually met. Charles remembered how even then he was afraid Sam would never call him: that he wouldn't come back.
