The cold air blew through the half-shattered gate of a once safe haven. Elrey woke up, blood all over his body, a gun in his hand and his head shaking. As he sat up from the hard, cold floor of the courtyard, he remembered something:
" Must have shot the explosives before the came up the house."
As he pulled himself together, his vision focused and saw dozens of bodies lying around. Most of them we're zombies, but some we're his fellow refugees from the zombies apocalypse. He was satisfied and very sad at the same time but then, he saw a couple of walkers walking, stumbling is the proper term, around aimlessly outside the gate. What made this more horrifying is that their organs were still dangling by their chords.
" Thought that explosion really took out the whole horde? Guess no. Damn it." he thought.
His attention turned to the surroundings, houses were rundown from the infection, and smoke was rising.
He listened to his thoughts on what to do. He was now, all alone. An ordinary boy against millions of zombies, now that's crazy talk, he thought. He rubbed his smooth, black hair as he surveyed his the house. It was a mess. Wood and papers and etc. were strewed around. Among those were body parts and blood. "Now what? With most of the G's put down in this area, I can escape now. What should I do? Search for survivors and for supplies?" he thought. He took a last look at the living room, then at the ceiling. It was creaking. "Yep, I should go". He then took out his bag and gun. "Food, water, clothes, ( stopped for a second and shook a little bit ) medicine, aspirine." He went down and took a few pieces blocking the door. As he opened it, the blinding rays of the sun blinded him for a second. Then he felt the cool breeze of summer. he then saw a creeper, crawling slowly towards him. He then took ou his gun and pulled the trigger.
*Bang*
A shot rang out and flesh and blood came out of the creeper. Some of it splattered on to Elrey. He did the same to the others. Everytime he did this, he closed his eyes. He knew that deep inside them, they were still normal people. As he ran out into the street, he saw something.
"Aww, Goddamnit!"
He saw several zombies running after him. They soon catched up with him. They were about a hand from him when he suddenly ran faster. He ran towards a nearby factory.
"I thought this area was cleared?"
He went to the other side of the factory, where other zombies were hanging around. He took out his handgun and shot two G's in the head. He climbed up the ladder and as soon as he reached the top, he laid down some claymores and took out his double pistol. When the G's reached the top via climbing, he shot two in the head as they fell down. He then shot to more in the right. He continued to do this until he ran out of ammo.
"Already? What the----?"
He jumped down the roof and ran towards a Cosco Shop. As they neared him, he heard someone say,
"DUCK!"
He quickly slid down through the door as a shot rang out. This continued forward as he saw that someone was shooting the zombies chasing him.
BANG BANG BANG BANG!
Then suddenly, the shots ceased. I shouted out,
"HELLO?! ANYONE THERE? HELLO? HELLO?!"
Then suddenly,
"You ok, Rey?"
He turned around around to find:
Albert Regner and Jienna Clifford, his two best friends and childhood classmates.
Elrey then suddenly felt so relieved at the same time, happy! He had found two persons he know and he could trust them. He quickly hugged them. Albert was in a black polo shirt while Jienna was in a checkered shirt. Albert was holding a AK-47 while Jienna had a crossbow.
"Good thing I saw you, or you would have been eaten." Albert said
"Thanks, bro! I owe you one for that" I said.
"Hey! Nice to meet you again but chit-chat later, ok? Maybe those shots lured others. We should start repacking right away. We're burning daylight!!" Jienna exclaimed
"That's the pumped-up Jienna alright!" I thought
As we packed up some supplies, they started telling me what happened to them.
Elwyn went first:
I was back in our village, outside of town when the virus came in. There was a few cases, but most people there took it as a minor threat. But when the virus spread through the patients at our hospital, that's when they panicked. Me? I was already prepared the time the outbreak became serious. Been preparing since the minor cases. I was sneaking out through the alleys when a couple of Zeds stumbled upon me and chased me. Luckily someone laid a trap at the end of the alley, and I almost got stuck in that trap if it wasn't for a nylon wire stretched across. I jumped over it and ran towards the main highway. When it was clear, I trekked to the city, clutching my gun tightly. Luckily I got to the city in almost 2 and a half hours. I didn't want to sta at the highway at night, no lights man. I stayed at an apartment complex overnight, then crossed this squatters' area. Some Zeds were eating a rotten corpse when one of them raised his head up to my direction then moaned out loudly. I quickly ran the other direction but Zeds were coming in through every direction. Jienna here was also crossing the area when she saw the Zeds chasing after me. Good thing she had that crossbow, and sniped them, or I would have been a goner.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then it was Jienna's turn:
Well, I just came back from P.C, Pacific Continent, where we grew up, remember. When I got here, the outbreak had hit the airport the moment we landed. I sneaked in the building. I took precautions. I took a machete from a maintenance closet and slashed my way out through a back door. I ran towards the suburbs. I came upon a dead hunter and this crossbow and took it. I looted some stores and slept in a shack in the squatters. Then as I was trying to get out there, I saw this group of Zeds chasing a guy holding a gun and shooting it, point blank. I sniped them, 2 by 2, then came in to Albert, as he was hiding inside a dumpster. (Albert held a smirk on his face). And then we joined forced and we found a new and better hideout.
That was it.
"Well, I think that's enough. We better get back. It's almost sundown." Jienna said.
She gave me some ammo then we set out. It was only a few blocks so we got there in no time.
We came down the rails and we reached the inside of the train station. They set up camp in the offices. It was barricaded pretty well. As soon as we got in and barricaded it:
Albert said:
"Well, make yourself at home. Set up there at the corner right beside where we sleep. We take shifts every 1 hour o.k? We come out if it's high noon. No turning on of appliances at the moment, later maybe. Get yourself comfortable at least."
I set up my bed beside Albert. I sat down on a table and tried to close my eyes, but Jienna called me
"Be useful. Help us tidy up"
That's the real Jienna I know. I had two trusted friends, we were safe, at least at the moment and we had enough supplies. But we still needed to find more survivors and supplies. But what can I say, a new day is a new adventure. We'll never know what happens next.
