Alfred and Arthur had decided to go souvenir shopping to forget about the argument with Francis and the slowly growing lump on top of Arthur's head, left from the baking tray. Alfred was carrying a bag with a shirt that said 'I like his Empire State' and a small key ring that had an American flag on it, Arthur was carrying his coat which he had taken off due to the heat and had it folded over his arm.
They had been out for a few hours and Arthur was beginning to get tired, he was itching for a cup of tea and Alfred kept whining that he was hungry, so the pair stopped off at a cute little café near the corner of the high street.
The café had a few tables outside with some dainty white chairs that surrounded them. Inside, the walls were painted pastel blue with more dainty white tables and chairs, each table had a small metal bucket which held cutlery and a single fake flower of pastel pink or yellow colour. In the corner opposite the counter was a floor-to-ceiling high glass cabinet containing various tea sets with Victorian designs; flowers with leaves, animals in forests and portraits of ladies dancing with their gentlemen. The counter itself had a gold-painted Victorian register in the corner by the wall and a small glass shelving unit with various cakes and scones. It was a step back in time and a place closer to home for Arthur.
The Brit walked straight to the corner which housed the tea sets and peered into the cabinet to observe the beautiful pieces of history, while Alfred made his way to talk to the young lady behind the counter. "Hey there...uh...Sophia." Alfred greeted the beautiful woman while reading her name card, offering his most heroic smile to her. "I think we'll take a cucumber sandwich cut into triangles with white bread, no crust, and I'll have a double bacon cheeseburger with your special seasoning fries. Oh and can we get a pot of tea for my dude?" He requested with a small smile.
Once the food was ordered and paid for Alfred chose a table near the window and went to sit down, after a few minutes Arthur came to join him, sitting in the seat opposite. The American took his phone from his pocket and checked his messages. Empty. Nothing from Francis, not even a 'how are you?' or a 'have a good day'. Arthur cleared his throat and sighed. "He hasn't apologised yet, has he?" He asked, with an almost apologetic gaze and pitying voice.
"Is it that obvious?" Alfred asked, a small sigh escape his lips as he asked. It was obvious that he felt for the Frenchman but didn't know how to say it, now with them having an argument he didn't really know if he would ever get the chance to tell him how he felt.
The waitress brought over their lunch on a gorgeous white tray with blue flowers. Alfred took his burger and fries, immediately pushing a fry into his mouth while he thought. Maybe he would have to visit Francis later once he had finished his shopping with Arthur.
Lunch passed quickly with the two being as hungry as they were and soon enough they were back on the streets of New York, walking and laughing together.
A large black van, a Ford econoline, turned the corner as Alfred finished telling Arthur a joke. He glanced at the van, noticing the windows were blacked out as well. He hummed in curious thought as the van slowed down, to move only slightly faster than they were. The side door flew open suddenly, making Arthur jump and move back away from the road. A man dressed in all black with a balaclava over his head to hide his face reached out both arms and grabbed Alfred. He dropped both bags that he was carrying and tried to fight back, managing to get free of one man before a baseball bat hit his head and his world went black. He heard Arthur yell his name and the screech of wheels, the slam of a door then silence. Arthur could only watch helplessly as the man he helped raise was driven away from him by complete strangers.
Alfred had been kidnapped.
