I slowly open the door, doing my best to prevent it from squeaking. My efforts are in vain, and I hear him stirring in the room. I almost change my mind and leave, but this is the time I've seen it. My thoughts start to wander back to my bedroom...

I snap my mind back to the task at hand. I creep further into the room. There's a full moon out tonight, just like every other night. It provides just enough light for me to spot my target. I slowly make my way to the other side of the room, grab my prize, and quietly rush out of the room again. I take care to close the door back to where it was before, about an inch open.

The mad dash to my room is torturous. The shadows elongate, the nightlight in my room seems to be getting dimmer by the second, and I can feel the crippling headache setting in. I sense the frigid snaky tendrils reaching out to grab me just as I make it through the door. I slam the door shut and flip on the light as fast as I can.

The blinding light washes away the migraine. I sigh in relief, sinking down to the floor. I hug my knees to my chest and focus on breathing normally. This takes quite a long time because the smoky black tentacles were closer to catching me than they've ever been before.

I look down at my prize, laying face-down on the wood floor beside me. This thing- this monstrosity- is the only thing, besides light, that keeps the shadows at bay. The shadows have been terrorizing me for as long as I can remember. I think it started when my mother-

I hear footsteps in the hallway. It's either the shadow demons trying to trick me, or I accidentally woke my father up. The former is more likely, but I scramble to shut the light off and leap into bed anyway. I tuck the monster under my covers, hidden, and close my eyes and pretend to sleep.

Wow, I am suuuper excited about this story.

I'm getting all these new ideas, and it's great. I really look forward to writing more of this!!

Hope you enjoyed it! ^-^
