jayden pov
"survival of the richest,
the city's ours until the fall.
they're monaco and hamptons bound,
but we don't feel like outsiders at all."humming softly as halsey blasted into my ears, i shiver, and pull my jumper tighter around my shoulders, the cold weather biting at my skin. with no feeling in my toes, the tip of my nose freezing, and my black skinnies failing to keep my legs warm, i walk to the nearest shop, which happens to be a new coffee shop. the bell above my head rings, and i wince. don't draw attention to yourself, dumbass, my conscious seems to growl at me from inside my head. i scowl and walk further into the shop.
i quietly walked into line and read the cute, little board of specials and items of the menu. fiddling with my necklace, i walked further in line and nervously awaited ordering. you see, i also have some wonderful social anxiety, so naturally i hate talking to strangers. i intook a deep breath and ordered a medium coffee with caramel. coffee shop soundtrack by all time low echoed through my earbuds as i waited for my coffee. ironic, right ?
"jayden?" my head snaps up as i hear my name called over my music. a teenage girl with various piercings and cropped hair stood by the coffee bar and held a drink, which i assumed to be mine. i carefully stood up and walked to her, trying way too hard not to embarrass myself. "thanks." i said with a tiny smile. i turn to go back to my quaint, cushioned chair, but hear some sort of muted talking. i pulled out my earbud and turned back to the girl, who was looking right at me.
"s-sorry, what?" i blush, tripping over my words. she grins and says "i love your necklaces! what's your favourite song of theirs?" i look down at my two twenty one pilots necklaces, smiling softly. "holding onto you," i say after a seconds hesitation. she smiles bigger. "i love that song! i've been obsessed with all of vessel recently." nodding, i smile. "have you been to one of their concerts before?" "i've never been to a concert." she blushes, looking embarrassed. my jaw drops. "seriously? dude, you have to go sometime! plus, ty and josh are sooo amazing live." she grins, "what's your number? you seem cool."
i'm caught off guard. this sweet, cute girl wants my number? is this a joke? my face got hot as i pulled out my iphone and exchanged it for hers. typing 'jay (:' and my number in with shaky fingers, she hands my phone back and i hand back hers. "scarlett!" a loud, male voice comes from the back room of the shop. the girl in front of me grins sheepishly. "that's my cue to go, miss..." she reads her phone, "jay!" she salutes me and sashays back to her angry coworker, muttering something about hating him. i smile to myself and walk out of the shop, taking a sip of my coffee.
it's pretty good coffee. looks like i'll have to come back. i look back at the shop, remembering the name - aroma mocha. well isn't that the cheesiest name ever? i like it. i proceed to walk to my car and open the door to a black range rover evoque, which had been my present for my sixteenth birthday three years ago. i love practically all things black, so i was ecstatic to find that i got a car and it was black. i start the engine and pull out, driving to my apartment. my phone buzzed in my pocket after driving for a few miles, causing me to jump. i took a breath and pulled out my phone. i glanced down and saw that it was from scarlett.
i pull my eyes back to the road, not wanting to text and drive. i pull onto the road that leads to the parking lot near my dorm room. yeah, i'm in my last year of college. i'm getting an associates in business, so then i can open a café of my own later on in life, if i still want to. i back up into the slot closest to my room, then grab my phone and little, black handbag. i quickly respond to the text from scarlett, which read "hey jay! this is scarlett from the coffee shop :D" i smiled, then typed "hi scarlett! how's work going ?" i get out of the car and grab my keys from my bag, walking up to the door of my dorm. i push open the door, set my bag on the table by the kitchen, and yell "i'm back, daph!" i hear a muted groan from my roommate, daphne, and i laugh. "get your lazy ass out of bed; it's one in the afternoon, idiot!" "uGH shut up!" she yells back.
