Chapter 2 - 6 Months

~Lucy POV~

"Wahhhhhhhh" The loud cry which was now my new alarm clock ring through my ears loudly.

I love our little Luke, but does he really have to wake up every three hours crying because he's hungry ?! I guess this child really did take after Natsu.

"I'll go." Natsu croaked as he began to shuffle to get out of bed.

"It's fine Natsu. You have to go to work soon so you have a rest. I'll go." I smiled as I hesitantly got out of bed.

"You sure ?" He asked, with his eyes still shut.

"Yes." I stifled a laugh at his sleepy state. This whole father thing was a massive wake up call to Natsu. I guess he underestimated how much time care has to go into a baby. If only he was around more he'd get to see the fun side of parenting too...but sadly he's been promoted so is working even longer shifts. I try to stay up to wait for him but I always end up dozing off, no matter how hard I try to stay awake.

I know he has to work hard for us, but I just wish that he would be able to stay at home more often too.

"Hey baby." I cooed as I approached the wailing baby. I peered over his cot and smiled warmly at him. His wailing immediately seized as he began squirming around in his cot, extending his arms out.

I can't believe it's already been six months since I was in that delivery room with the panicked Natsu. I'll admit it, I was panicking myself. I hope I'll be as good a mother as my parents were to me...for the short time I was able to have with them.

"Don't worry...I'll never leave you. I promise." I whispered softly as I lifted the baby out of the cot.

"Here's the bottle, I already checked the temperature." Natsu said behind me, causing me to jump a little.

"Natsu ! I have the baby, don't scare me like that." I hissed, taking the bottle from him. "But thank you, now go back to sleep don't worry about this."

"I can't." He said taking a seat on the bed next to me.

"Natsu, it's only 4a.m. You start work at 9a.m." I stated, slightly baffled.

"I can't...I just got a call...I have to go now..." He placed his head between his hands and ruffled his hair while letting out an exasperated sigh.

"Does this mean you'll be back earlier than usual ?" I asked, hoping the answer would be yes. "We could go out to the mall with Luke !" I beamed.

"Luce...you know that's not possible." Natsu replied lowly. "As much as I would want it to be. Maybe another time though."

"Yeah sure, at Luke's graduation !" I replied sarcastically rolling my eyes.

"Luce please. This isn't my fault. I'm doing the best I can to keep this family up and running, you know that." He said as I passed him Luke so that he could at least spend a few minutes with him before leaving.

I watched as Luke stared at his dad with wide eyes and a cute little smile. Natsu mirrored his action and began to tickle his stomach earning a few giggles from Luke.

"I know Natsu, but maybe what this family needs is you. Not money." I pouted. I couldn't hold my pout that long because the scene of Natsu playing with Luke completely melted my heart.

"I love you Luce. I'll do my best to try and get more days off I promise." He replied, cradling Luke to sleep.

"Okay." I replied. If only I had a pound for every time I heard that...

~Natsu POV~

"Of course she's mad." I rant to Gray as we sit in the police car, at the scene where a suspicious man was spotted. "I don't understand,
I'm literally paying the bills and everything and she's still not happy..."

"Natsu, you're going to miss your child growing up if don't ask for a few days off ! I have a house and I'm capable of paying all the bills and I literally take two or three days off a week. At least I won't miss Darcy growing up." He smiled as he pulled out a picture of Darcy from his wallet. "My little princess."

"You're right Gray. I'll speak to boss today." I smiled. "And Luke is way cuter than Darcy, just saying."

"Tch." He scoffed. "In your dreams Dragneel. Your boy better stay away from my girl."

"As if he'd go for someone like that." I retorted.

"Well at least-"

"Shh there he is" my eyes scanned the surroundings and spotted the suspicious man. I gave a nod to Gray and the rest was history. Another successful job for team Dragneel and Fullbuster.

"Boss, I'd like so speak to you if I may." I asked as I sat in the chair opposite him. His room was full of certificates and pictures of him receiving several awards. I hope that I'll be able to progress in my career and reach the level that he is at.

"What is it Dragneel ? You and Fullbuster aren't resigning right ? You're the best team I have." The boss said in a loud voice. He was very friendly yet very scary at the same time. His mood was slightly unpredictable.

"I was wondering if I could please have a few days off. My wife had a baby six months ago and-"

"Why didn't you tell me Dragneel ? I wouldn't of had made you come in ! Here let me change your shifts. You're a father now and family is extremely important."

Well, that was easier than I thought it would be.

"Really ?!" I replied in disbelief. "Three days a week off ?!"

"Yes, three days but obviously if there's an emergency we'll have to call you in, but other than that, enjoy your family time. You deserve it. Congratulations and I hope your child grows up to be somewhat like the young man you grew up to be." He smiled warmly. My eyes drifted towards the picture of his family, except in his most recent one his wife and one of his kids was missing.

That's because they were both murdered and we're still trying to find out who and why.

The boss is like a father to me which I never really had so I'll do the best I can to help him. I can't imagine losing my wife and kid...it would destroy me. The boss is a strong man, but even strong men have fragile hearts. If you look closely into his eyes, you can see that behind them lies massive pain.

"Thanks boss." I nod in appreciation and walk out the office with a large smile stamped onto my face.

Time to go back home to my family. I might drop into the flower store and buy Lucy some flowers and some of her favourite donuts she can have a wonderful breakfast tomorrow...in fact I will cook her it myself.

Tomorrow will be a day for just me, Lucy and our baby.

Hey everyone !! So next week we get to see Natsu not only surprise Lucy but also him take Luke to the park...however when he's there he meets a very suspicious person....
