I sit on my bed and put my head in my hands. My sister is gone and I've just returned from my mothers funeral to pack up her belongings. I hear someone call my name so I walk to the attic. I feel like I'm in a haze. This can't be happening. Someone hands me a wooden box with a letter on top. I somehow end up on the floor of my bathroom with tears down my face reading my mothers hand writing:
Dear my sweet Johnny boy,
I've kept a secret from you for far too long. I enclosed all the details in this box and wrote this letter the day I found out I was terminal. Do not open this until October 26th!
Love,
Mom
I ignored the letter. What good is obeying my mother if she's rotting in a coffin.
I open the latch to find another letter from sweet old mom:
Dear Johnny,
I write this in tears for I have made a terrible mistake. The first year I had cancer treatment was a lie. I didn't have cancer...I was pregnant...I cheated on your father so I faked cancer to hide the pregnancy. I went to Ohio and I breast fed her for the remaining months and dropped her off at an orphanage. Her name is Storm. I left her with a box encasing all this information but once I found out I truly had cancer I realized what if she gets thrown into the system and someone takes her?!? So here I am beside myself writing this to my eldest son. All the information is here, please find her. She is you're littlest sister. She turns 16 on October 26, 2016. I know you couldn't help Jenna but maybe you could help her. Make sure my littlest lamb knows I didn't want to give her up. I just saw no other option. I want her to know I love her. Just please find her. It's my last and only dying wish my sweet boy.
Love,
Mom
I exploded. HOW COULD SHE???? Lie to us. Hide from us. This is horrendous. How dare she. I, so filled with rage impulsively left and drove to the orphanage. Only when I got there she wasn't there...
