My Love For Them Both

Chapter 1

     Have you ever felt as if no one would ever love you? Let me tell you your wrong, everyone finds love on way or another. I once felt as if no one would love me but that all changed when I got accepted into the college of my dreams.     

     I was eating breakfast when the letter came. "Brooklynn a letter from Harvard came in the mail," My mom said as she walked in the front door. I instantly stopped what I was doing. I ran over to her and took the letter out of her hand. I quickly ripped open the top of the letter. My hands shaked with anxiety as I opened the letter. I quickly scanned the letter and my heart sunk. "I-I didn't get in," I said. Tears threatened to spill over my cheeks. I threw the letter across the room and just as it landed on the floor my big brother came in laughing. "What's so funny" I scowled at him. He was laughing so hard he doubled over and fell on the floor. "Your face- You looked like you were gonna cry," He said between laughs. I walked over to him and he instantly stood up. "Jerk," I said then punched his arm. "Owww," he whined. "You shouldn't laugh at your sister Jaxson, she just found out she didn't get accepted to Harvard," My mom said."That's exactly why I laughed," He said. I raised my fist to punch him again but he handed me another letter. I looked at him confused, "What's this?" I asked. "Its your real letter from Harvard, I switched the letters," he laughed. I just stared at the letter stunned.

     I finally got the nerve to rip open the second letter. I took me a second to actually open the letter but when I did I almost fainted. "I got in," I screamed. MY brother engulfed me in a hug, " I knew you would get in that's why I couldn't help but prank you," He snickered. I laughed and he set me down. "I got in," I said again. I smiled and twirled in a circle. "Congratulations honey I knew you would make it," my mom said smiling proudly. "Thanks Mom, That means a lot to me" I said. She walked over and hugged me, "Wow my little baby is going to college," she said. I could tell she was on the verge of tears. "Mom I promise to visit you every other weekend," I assured her. She nodded against my shoulder. "Wh-When does the first semester start," She asked. "I believe it starts in two weeks," I said. I felt my shoulder getting wet and I knew she was crying. "Mom please don't cry." Jaxson walked over and touched her shoulder, "Mom come on lets go for a walk," He said. My mom let go of me and walked with Jaxson out the front door. I couldn't help but feel bad for my mom, I mean I was her last child and now when I go off to college she will have no-one to keep her company. I felt bad for being happy about going off to  college but I still couldn't get over the fact that I got accepted into Harvard. I walked to my room smiling the whole way.

     "I GOT ACCEPTED," I screamed and jumped on my bed. I laughed into my pillow.  A couple minutes later I got up and walked to my desk, I opened the drawer and pulled out my college fund jar. I've been saving up money for the past ten years. I don't know how much money I have right now but im pretty sure I have more then a thousand dollars. All my pay checks went into this jar. I dumped all the money on my bed and started counting. After about an hour of counting I ended up with about twenty-five thousand dollars. I know what your thinking 'She doesn't really have that much money' but its true I have that much money, im not gonna lie I mean I didn't get all this money myself. Every once I awhile my mom would put her whole paycheck when she had the extra money and I totally appreciate it. How could I live without her she's helped me through tough times.

     By the time I was finished with counting my brother called me down for lunch. " So I was thinking maybe you , me , and Jaxson could go to California for a week, you know so we could more time together before you both leave," she said hesitantly. "Of course, I would love to go," I smiled. "Same, I need some time away from this boring old town," Jaxson laughed. My mom smiled, "Ok then its settled we leave tomorrow." I laughed at her enthusiasm. "Well I better start packing then," I said. "Ok honey but when your done come down stairs and we can all go out for ice-cream, I mean it is a special occasion after all," she smiled. Jaxson whooped and hugged her, "I've been craving ice-cream fro about a week now," he said. "You know what mom how bout we leave now and I pack later," I said winking at Jaxson, he clapped his hands like a little kid which caused me to laugh. "That's a wonderful idea honey," my mom said. "SHOTGUNNNNNN!!!!," Jaxson yelled. "Awww you always sit in the front that's not fair," I whined. He stuck his tongue out at me and I smacked his arm but he just laughed and walked out to the car.
