"Coming Of Age"

"Father!"

The young fifteen year old boy called out in both panic and excitement, running through the large hallways. His curly and bright blonde hair blowing around like wisps of gold and falling close to his sky blue eyes. His glowing, healthy skin speckled with little freckles across his face.

He looked like a normal teen, ready for Summer - A t-shirt and shorts, ready for going out. The only strange things were his wings.

That's right. Wings.

Pure white, feathered wings sprouted from his back, the tips of each feather looked as if dipped in golden sunlight. He flapped them slightly as he ran, hoping to move faster.

He continued to rush around the castle of King Apollo, his father.

"Father?! Father!" The boy screamed, sliding into what seemed to be a throne room. A man with similar features sat in golden robes, a pair of matching wings attached to his back too.

"William? What is it, my son?" The man asked, an amused smile gracing his lips.

The boy sighed, trying to catch his breath slightly from his run. He bowed slightly at his father's throne,  "Father. You might have been aware of the fact that... It was my birthday a week ago." The teen said nervously.

"Of course," was his fathers reply, "We had a grand party for you. Even your aunt decided to show up."

"And Cecil ate all the cake..." The boy mumbled, "But that isn't the point. The point is...I feel like I'm ready."

"Ready? For what?"

"You know...The thing I've wanted for a while."

Judging by the look on the King's face, he didn't understand what his son meant by all this. "Guarding humans. I want my own human." Will added softly, fiddling with the hem of his shirt.

Apollo stood in confusion, walking over to his son as his wings stretched out in all their glory. "You mean? Going down to the human world?" The king asked slowly, his tone showed signs of rejection and that didn't help William's nerves at all.

He managed to gain his composure though and stand proudly, staring into his father's eyes,  "Many also agree. I know you care a lot about my safety, especially after what happened to mother, but as prince I feel I deserve this chance. I'm old enough."

Apollo had a cold look in his eyes for a second as if contemplating all the disasters that could fall upon his son. The only family who stayed in the castle with him. His pride and joy. He couldn't let anything happen to his son.

As much as he regretted it though, he gave out a sigh and gave in. "As you wish. It won't be easy, however. If at anytime something goes wrong and it gets too much, I want you home. Do you understand, William?"

His son smiled, which looked so natural with his face as if he was made for smiling. "Thank you, father! I can't wait!" He laughed in excitement, sprinting out of the throne room while his father watched with a smile, yet a sad glint in his eyes.

He couldn't let his son stay down on earth long. He had to do something.

In Apollo's mind, plans were stirring, ideas and thoughts clashing together. However, his son continued to run gleefully out the castle, without a single care in the world.

This young boy is Prince William Solace, prince of the angels.
