J and I never dared to travel at night. It was as if the monsters were attracted to the night because their population increased to an amount that frightened me even more in the day.

The first day that J and I had met- the day this all started- I saw evidence of this myself. We remained in that car for the night, together, watching the infected roam the parking lot aimlessly. Whatever created monsters was a fast act, because the people who were bound to sit with me on the plane were bit, and no longer alive within the same hour.

"We'll allow you two to be together, but don't try anything stupid." Diego whispered behind J and I as we were sneaking through the streets of Denver. The moonlight was our only light, wasn't much either considering the high buildings.

"I already threatened them." Matthew commented, snickering a little. Matthew threatened us about our 'funny business' when we were about to settle down, and have a meal with Abel.

"Up ahead, Matt." Lucas stopped our five person train and my eyes trained on where his concentrated.

"Just one, huh?" Matthew wondered out loud as we all silently watched the monster roam against a small brick building. It's clothes were ripped everywhere, I would hardly call it a shirt.

"Is that-" I was beginning to ask but Matthew saw what I had seen.

"A blood trail. Just made a kill." He replied. As the monster limped away from us, I saw a faint, but noticeable trail of blood following behind it.

"Or must have stepped in someone else's blood." Lucas theorized. We were all still frozen.

"Let's keep moving." Matthew started walking then, our bodies hidden in shadows. For a while, our feet softly meeting the concrete was the only sound I heard. And I thought that the faint growling was coming from the monster up ahead. As we walked more, I decided that there were multiple growls.

"Hold up." I said, now stopping us again. The whole process stopped as I commanded it to. The boys paused to look at me with a curious expression written on their faces. It was nice to know that they cared about my opinion.

"What's that sound?" I whispered, looking around. As I believed it to be, they come out at night, especially in hordes.

"Shit!" Matthew angrily whispered, as a massive horde entered the street from behind us. They were a few yard away, and hadn't seen us yet.

"Let's get in a building. They're coming our way." Lucas said, already leading us into a robbed store. We entered by a broken window.

"Get behind here." Diego knelt behind a flipped table. We all joined him in silence, watching the waves of monsters pass by. The flow seemed never ending, like the whole world's people were walking before us.

"This is good." Matthew said then, his voice nearly too quiet to hear compared to the growls of the others.

"How the hell is this good?" J wondered, his eyes wildly scanning the people.

"They're heading straight for the tower. We join the dead." Matthew said, under his breath mostly, but I heard him as if he whispered it in my ear.

"You're fucking crazy." I exclaimed, shaking my head in disbelief.

"It's perfect, the tower guard will be so distracted with them, they'll never see us blend in with the crowd." Lucas nodded sharply.

"That's impossible, there's no way to do that." J argued because we both knew it was true.

"You've...never walked with the dead?" Matthew questioned, all emotion wiped from his face.

"What does that mean?" J and I were both getting impatient.
