My bare feet patter across the hardwood. It's cold - freezing actually. It doesn't even feel like the heat is on. I slowly continue to walk down the dimmed hallway. I hear the soft sobs getting closer and louder, I turn the basement door handle slowly, my heart is pumping and I feel like if I were to talk right now, no words would come out. As the door swings open and the sobs get louder the door instantly shuts.
"What the hell do you think you were doing?" he says darkly, stepping close to me.
