Mairin's POV
"Go Fish!" I said as I smacked the card onto the ground. "Dang it!" Serena pouted.

I smiled.

"Wait—did you hear that?" Serena whispered. I shook my head.

"Well I did! C'mon!" She grabbed my hand and we silently ran down the long halls of the castle.

We stopped at the end of the stairs and tried to catch our breaths.

All of a sudden we heard a crashing noise from the kitchen. And if you listen closely, you heard someone cuss.

"What w-was t-t-that?!" I whispered. "I don't know!!" Serena clenched my arm.

"Let's go look!" I said. "No! What if we get murdered—or—or caught—or—" I interrupted Serena, "C'mon! Guards are always on duty! We won't die!" I grabbed her arm and we ran across the hall and into the front of the kitchen room.

We both took a deep breath and pushed open the doors. Then—we heard some rustling noises.

I reached out my hand and touched something soft, and silky....

"GAAAAAAA!!!" The something—or someone screamed.

Serena and I screamed and bumped into something and fell. Soon, the lights were on.

"Mairin? Serena?" We looked up and saw Alain!!

"You scared the *BEEP* daylight out of me!" He said and reached out his hand for me to grab.

I grabbed his hand and he hugged me. My heart was pounding from what just happened.

"Thanks for the help!" Serena said with sarcasm, while rubbing her back.

Alain smiled with a toothy grin.

"So why were you here, anyways?" I asked.

Alain's smile turned to a frown.

"Someone broke in." He said.

"WHAT?!?" Serena and I yelled.

"Someone stole 100 dollars worth of food, and got away" He responded.

"But how? What about the guards?!" Serena said. "They didn't know. Whoever snuck in must be a ninja or something!" Alain answered.

"But who could it be?" Alain asked himself.
