I remember seeing this girl once before. I think it was in the recreational activities room during a free time a while back. I can't help the grin that twitches its way onto my face. She's adorable.
I watched her plop into her seat, a broad smile as bright as the sun on her face.
"Hi..!" She piped up, quickly placing her folded hands on the table in front of her. "I'm Kimi."
"Hi, Kimi" I said back in a friendly voice. "How are you today?"
"I'm good!" She laughed, bringing her small hands to her lips. "I get to see mommy and daddy today...!" She sang, her multi-colored eyes twinkling. I felt a tug in my chest.
"Aw, that's great Kimi. If you don't mind me asking, how come mommy and daddy don't stay here with you...?" I mean, as far as I know they'd be allowed to stay the night. Perhaps take turns.
"Ahh...." Her small voice shrunk slightly. "Mommy and daddy let Mr.Doctor bring me here. He says he will be able to help me... He said he takes care of as many people as he can...I'm getting fixed."
I felt my brows furrow, and my words tumble out of my lips before I could stop them. "You look ok to me, Kimi..." Stupid, Stupid...
Kimi smiled, but shook her head. "I'm purple. I get more and more purple everyday." Her eyes bored straight into mine – wide and innocent. She was telling the truth. Her truth, anyway...
"I see..." My voice sounded kind of small. The small girl's giggles cut the silence in the room.
"It's okay..! I like purple...!"
It wasn't long before the nurse came and led the chirping girl out the door.
