Orange leaves fall from the dark brown oak trees outside of Mrs. Greer's front yard. Harsh sounds of the wind echo throughout the entire neighborhood and a crescent moon can be seen fading in from the distance above the pink sky as the sun sets. Two teenagers inadvertently pass by Mrs. Greer's eerie brown brick house.
"Isn't this where that lady lives?" asks Chester, as he takes off his blue snapback to scratch his disheveled dark brown hair.
"Didn't we already pass it?" questions Kris. The breeze causes her curly brunette hair to flutter in her face as she looks back. "We passed it, I'm pretty sure."
Chester snickers and walks up to Mrs. Greer's black metal fence. "Nope, this is it. I can tell by the stone gargoyles on her porch," he says as he slides his hand through the fence gate to open it.
Kris looks around to ensure herself that there is no one in the vicinity. "Are you stupid!?" she quietly exclaims. "You said we wouldn't do this anymore."
Chester walks through the fence gate as Kris hesitantly follows. "What do we have to lose?" he asks sarcastically.
Kris rolls her eyes. "We better not get caught, my parents will never get me that car."
"Why don't you loosen up huh? We've done worse," he states as he inspects the front of Mrs. Greer's house.
Kris knew that Chester was right, they really have done worse. They've been friends since elementary school and the secrets they held would bind them forever.
"Has the stupid shit we've done ever effected the outcome of our future?" Chester asks as he picks up a large rock off of Mrs. Greer's yard.
Kris' glossy brown eyes shoot open. "Don't be stu-."
Chester flings the rock through the front window. The window glass shatters and the noise of the rock colliding with something inside the house can be heard from outside.
"I can't believe you did that! What if someone heard!?" Kris yells while looking up at the second floor window of Mrs. Greer's house. "What if she's home?!" Kris shouts while frantically looking around.
While Chester clears the window of remaining glass with his foot, Kris snatches his hat and puts it on her head.
"Yeah, they say she's some type of witch. Maybe she'll teach us," Chester laughs. "Besides, whether or not someone heard the window break doesn't matter, because you keep yelling. You're going to be the reason we get caught."
Kris follows Chester through the window gripping onto the hat that is on her head. Chester and Kris look around the room in astonishment. Several tall bookshelves stand throughout the room they had climbed into. Paintings hang on the wall and a bunch of small talismans dangle from the ceiling. The setting sun manages to create a small light that shines through the shattered window onto the knocked over wooden chair that the rock collided with.
