AUTHOR'S NOTE: So here is the story you've been waiting for...! DNA! This is one of my first pieces. Please aware me if there are any mistakes, and only constructive criticism. No hate. WELP, on with the story!
The sun's light blared through the shield of leaves on the trees and speckled on the ground. A faint breeze rustled the green, and made it seem as if the trees came alive, gently swaying. Forest critters did their everyday things. Birds chirped, their song so sweet. The peace was calming, beautiful.
It quickly ended, like it always did. A little tom cat ran, crunching the fallen leaves with his fragile paws. he fled lightly and swiftly, leaving barely any trace other then the moved leaves. Shadows loomed behind him, slowly swallowing up the light. Millions of them followed him, their jaws gaping. Their eyes glowed as bright as a full moon on a clear night. Startled, critters leaped away, moving far from the scene. The monsters were ganging up on the young cat. He glanced behind his shoulders, seeing them. His eyes sparkled with horror. He halted, ears against his head. The shadows laughed, knowing they had won. They circled around him, howling. Unsheathing its claws, the leader, smirked. The shadows all stopped moving except for the leader. The tom collapsed, feeling claws strike his forehead. Eyes glazed, he store at nothing. Blood rushed out of the wound, pooling onto the ground. The shadow swished its tail, signaling. Then came a crack.
Melting. All I can feel is my body melting.
It hurts...when will the pain be over...?
The tom awoke, breathing heavily. Maybe it was just a dream? He soon came to realize it wasn't. The tom saw the shadows, laughing at one another. He looked down, to see his own paw. Black. He let out a loud shriek, shaking his paw. A shadow walked over to him, causing him to tremble in fear.
"W-what's wrong? Something b-bite your tail?"
The tom couldn't respond. His mouth open wide, gaping.
"I think he's scared."
"Of what?"
"Us, idiot, remember, we aren't what we use to be."
The young tom shrank back, shivering. Dear lord help me. Shadows, SHADOWS EVERYWHERE.
The shadow were a natural enemy, and they even fight upon themselves. No one knows how these creatures began, or where they come from.
"Calm boy, calm," one of the shadows whispered in their distorted voice, "you're one of us now." The other shadows nodded. "We were all like you once."
"Outer."
