I slipped on my leggings and floral blouse. I pulled on my Uggs, then brushed my long chocolate hair back into a messy ponytail.

I grabbed my bag and headed to the door.

"Where are you going?" My mom said curiously form the kitchen table, as she peered over her newspaper.

"Visiting Kara." I said, as I grabbed my guitar in it's case.

"Of coarse. Tell her I say hello and send love." She says with a sad smile.

"Sure." I half-smile.

~~~~~~~~~~
I step off the metro and look up at the familiar tall building towering in front of me.
I trudged up the steps next to the wheelchair ramp, as my guitar bumps me in the knee.
"Hey, Kara! Haven't seen you in a few days." Says the same soft-voiced brunette, Rachel, that greets me almost every day.
I smile at her as I head down one of the various hallways and stop at the familiar door.
I knock, then hear the recognizable weak voice of Kara say, "Come in."
As I open the door, I smile at Kara, trying not to let sadness overcome my face. She's always been strong, so I need to be strong with her.
She looked down at my guitar case and her smile grew.
"Are you going to sing me another song?" After I brought my guitar and starting singing for the first time, she's been looking forward to my visits even more.
I nod, then put my stuff down in one of the three chairs. I open up my guitar case and pull out my instrument that is coated in pictures of Kara and I.
I grab a pick and start strumming the ling intro, then proceed with the lyrics.
Don't give up, Don't give up
God is watching you
Don't give up, Don't give up
Were praying for you
Don't give up, don't give up
Your heart is still beating
Don't give up, Don't give up
Your dreams are still dreaming
Don't give up, Don't give up
God is watching you
Don't give up, Don't give up
Were praying for you
Put your hand on you heart
Feel the thump thump thump
Your heart is still beating
Close your eyes
Dream a dream
That means your still living
Don't give up, Don't give up
God is watching you
Don't give up, Don't give up
Were praying for you
Don't give up, don't give up
We'll never stop beating
We'll fight this battle through
Standing right beside you
Don't give up, Don't give up
God is watching you
Don't give up, Don't give up
Were praying for you
Don't give up, don't give up
We'll fight this battle through
Don't give up, don't give up
Standing right beside you
After I end the song by strumming a few more cords, them placing my guitar in it's case.
When I turn around, I see Kara sitting there, awestruck, tears streaming down her face.
I gave her a reassuring smile, then she opened her arms as an unspoken invitation for a hug.
"That's my favorite by far, out of all of them." She smiled when we pulled away.
~~~~~~~~~~

After a few minuets of chatting, she said in a perky voice, "So, what do you want to do?"

I grabbed my bag and dumped out the contents. In it was my metro pass, my phone, a couple spare bucks, and a TON of nail polish.

She squealed and i laughed at her joyous reaction.

"Pick as many colors as you want." I said, watching her look through the colors.

~~~~~~~~~~~
While her nails dried, we watched Pretty Little Liars and agreed how cute the guy who played Toby was.
Soon, John, one of the doctors that I see every time I visit, popped his head in and said, "Kara needs to prepare for her chemo therapy. Sorry, Leila, but she's gotta be alone."
I smiled at John and said goodbye to Kara.
Just as I was about to walk out the door, she grabbed my arm. "Visit me again tomorrow?" She asked with pleading eyes.
"Of coarse. Why would you think I wouldn't?" I asked.
"You haven't visited in 4 days." She looked down at her hands. "They were the most lonely 4 days I've had in a ling time." She looked up at me.
"I told you, I was with my dad. I never get to see him anymore since what happened. And like I've said, he's in Louisiana, that's a long trip." I said gently. "I'll see you tomorrow, Kara."
She smiled up at me. "See ya tomorrow! Bring your guitar!"
I laughed and walked out the door after waving.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"How's Kara?" My mom asked the second I step foot into the house.

"She's looking better, but more.... Tired looking." I sighed.

"I know it's hard, baby. She'll get through it. You and I both know she's a fighter." My mom smiled and wrapped her arms around me, enveloping me into a hug.

Hi, I'm Julia. I really hope I can keep up with this story. I'm not writing this to get reads or become famous on Wattpad. I just want to get the message out about cancer and it's effects.

The song that Leila sang to Kara was an original song, completely written by me. Please don't steal; I worked hard on it.

❤️
