Out in the courtyard, there were two girls in white who I didn't recognize, and Dr. Celica was treating one of them who was on the ground. "What happened?" I asked the doctor.
She quickly slipped one of her magic potions to her patient, and the situation seemed to resolve. The girl standing turned to me first. "That's my sister, Sol," she explained in a small polite voice. "She has some kind of illness, so Dr. Celica needs to come give her treatment sometimes."
I was no doctor, so I didn't question it. "Is she all right?"
Sol finally rising from the brick seemed to answer my question. "As long as Dr. Celica gets her the treatment, she'll be okay."
The doctor nodded in agreement and left with Sol. "So that's your sister, right? I got her name, but what's yours?"
"Ah, it's Crystal." She extended her hand to me, and I shook it.
"My name is Myra. I just got here."
"Oh, that explains why I haven't seen you before! Did Cadence give you trouble?"
"Well yeah, but the Doctor fixed me up, so it's fine." Did Cadence beat up everyone who came here? "So how did you end up here?"
Crystal suddenly became shy, and I hoped I didn't offend her or something. "Well... I don't know. I woke up here with no memories at all."
"Well there's a familiar story," I groaned. "It's like there's not one person who knows what happened."
"So you don't remember either?"
"Not anything specific, though sometimes I get bits of information. Like how I can speak this language, but I have no idea where it's from."
"It makes you wonder how Rela knows how to talk to both Cadence and the rest of us."
Crystal made a good point. Rela could speak to Cadence just as fluently as to us, making her possibly the only bilingual member of our party. Did she learn it somehow, or was she raised that way? Without any memories, one could only guess.
Having nothing better to do in the courtyard, we decided to go grab a bite to eat, maybe without interruption this time.
For a while, we talked, but it was hard to find anything good to say. After all, we were all trapped here with no memories, so there was nothing else to talk about. "What do you all do around here anyway?" I asked, trying to get a sense of daily life here.
Crystal quickly swallowed some of the mushrooms I had taken from the kitchen chests. "Well, I usually don't do much useful here, which makes me sound like a slacker... But Cadence usually tends the farms and works on new buildings. I sometimes help her out."
"What about Rela? She seems like she's in charge here."
"Yeah, she found this place originally and let us stay here. She's pretty good at surviving here, so we follow her lead." She returned to her food briefly, but then snapped back as she remembered something. "Except for Cadence. She helps out, but she really follows Valkyrie."
Another name I haven't heard before. Great. "So who's Valkyrie?"
"Valkyrie is this scary woman with a long violet cloak. She's been teaching us how to fight, just in case we need to defend ourselves. I think she's not from around here..."
So that's why Cadence could kick my ass into next week. "But wait, where else could Valkyrie be from? As far as I saw, there's nothing but red cavern."
"I don't know, but anywhere must be better than here. Maybe Cadence will show us one day!" Crystal smiled at me, and it made me smile as well.
"Yeah," I replied, "that would be nice." I thought of Whitney, who would probably want to go with us. "What is there to do around here that's fun?"
