Edward sat on the leather couch by the fire, coughing uncomfortably from time to time. After the encounter with Butch and almost getting strangled to death by his metal hand, it made Edward think about how lucky he was in his new life. He had a promising career as the Head of Staff for Oswald, the new mayor. He smiled at the thought of his penguin-like friend. He was especially grateful  for Oswald.

Oswald believed in him when nobody else did. He helped Edward realize his true potential in life, that Ed didn't have to be pushed around by other people. He smiled as he ran his fingers through the silk fabric of the robe that he was wearing. It belonged to Oswald, and Edward could clearly tell by the smell of it. It smelled of Oswald's expensive cologne that he seemed to wear everyday. It was a strangely comforting smell, even though it was very strong.

He smiled as he saw Oswald limp into the room, holding a tray with a tea cup on it. He sat down beside him, giving Edward the small tea cup. "It's my mother's recipe for a sore throat. She would always give this tea to me whenever i had one" He told Ed, as Ed smiled at him and coughed before taking a small sip of the delicious tea.

Oswald admired the tall man's features, his face showing the perfect amount of lighting that the fireplace provided. Oswald would always notice his strong cheekbones, and how his hair was always styled a certain way. He was scared that he would lose him  tonight, seeing Butch strangle him almost to death was still in his head. "Are you sure that you're okay?" Oswald asked in a somewhat caring tone, seeing the large, dark bruise on Edward's neck.

Edward nodded slightly and turned his head to look at him, giving him a reassuring smile as he put the cup on the table. "Without you, I would've died. You saved my life, twice" He said with a small chuckle. Ed looked Oswald in the eyes, staring into his dark orbs. "You should know, Oswald, that....I would do anything for you" he said sincerely in a small whisper.

Oswald looked at Ed, astonished by his words and the care behind them. He really meant it. Oswald never had a friend like Edward, who would risk their life for Oswald's sake. It was almost too good to be true. Oswald felt a funny feeling deep inside him as he looked into Edward's brown eyes. He leaned in closer and Edward met him in the middle, closing the gap between them with their lips. It felt like the most wonderful  feeling in the world, more powerful than the feeling he felt when he became mayor.

Oswald had never had experience with love, only the platonic love that his mother and father had given him. But romantic love was a whole new feeling, a feeling that made him feel like the king of the world. Oswald never wanted to come down from this new high that he discovered with Ed.

They slowly pulled away, them both out of breath. Edward had experienced this with Kristen, but this love felt so much different, it felt more powerful. Edward smiled down at Oswald, them both in each other's arms. Oswald smiled back and hugged Edward, holding him close like he was going to be taken away from him for real this time, like his mother and father. Edward slowly pet his dark black hair, holding the short man close to his chest as they sat by the fire and listened to the fire crackle all night long, them staying close to each other the entire time.
