Two men sat in a study, both in arm chairs before the fire, both silent as the grave as they contemplated the events in the week to come and the decision that had been made about two dear friends.

“Did they arrive safely, sir?”

“Yes, the ship docked in Ireland just this morning.”

“Do you really think it was a good idea to send them away? At a time like this?”

There was a pause.

“Yes.”

“But-”

“No, I stand by my decision. It’s better this way. They have been through so much already; I will not put them in harm’s way again. The plan goes on without them and I want no word sent to them about what we’re doing. They are to enjoy themselves while they are away, not worry about the troubles of a foolish old man. Do you understand?”

There was another pause, but this one was longer and more strained than the first.

“Yes, sir.”
