"Well," Scotty said, "How'd it go?"
"Great," Kirk mumbled.
"Oy," Scotty responded, "Captain, there's a man in your quarters waiting for you. He goes by the name Mr. Johnson."
"Thanks Scotty, I'm going to go meet him there in a second," Kirk said as he left the transporter room. McCoy followed Kirk, while Spock decided to go to the bridge. Kirk was slightly thankful. Spock had officially pissed him off when he decided Kirk wasn't good enough for the mission.
"What was Spock's problem?" Kirk said to himself.
"Him and Uhura broke up," McCoy said.
"Wait, when did that happen?" Kirk asked, surprised at the news.
"Two days ago," McCoy responded, "I'm surprised you didn't know."
Kirk shook his head.
"I don't know Bones," he said, "He seems to think I'm not good enough for the mission."
"Maybe he just didn't want you on the mission," McCoy said, "I mean, come on Jim, the mission is dangerous. Hell, I don't want you on that mission. Damn Star Fleet doesn't realize that this is the dumbest idea they ever had."
"Don't worry. I don't plan on dying again anytime soon."
"No one ever plans on dying," McCoy said quietly.
"I'll be fine," Kirk said even though he wasn't sure if even he believed in.
"Just don't take what Spock said to heart. I mean the pointy eared gremlin might not have a filter when he speaks, but if you ask me, I think he just didn't want to see you get hurt. No one does."
"Thanks Bones, and I'm not going to get hurt, or die. I mean sure I might lose my awesome hair style, but I plan on staying alive long after this mission," Kirk said in hopes to make his friend feel better, but really it just made Kirk feel like a liar.
Chances were that he was going on a suicide mission, and of course he would go. No one ever said being a star fleet officer wasn't a risky job.
The rest of the walk was mostly silent, except for the occasional talk of the officers around them. Some of it gossip, some of it was curiosity about what was going on, but none of it mattered. Kirk was too busy thinking about how he was going to learn a whole language in a month. Finally, they had made it to Kirks quarters and it was time to meet Mr. Johnson.
"I'm going to head to sickbay," McCoy said, "So do me a favor and be the best fake Romulan possible."
"You got it," Kirk said.

"Hello," said a rather short scrawny man, "I'm Mr. Johnson."
"I'm James Kirk, Captain of this ship."
"Nice to meet you James-if I-I'm allowed to call you that."
"Of course," Kirk said, "So, how's this going to work?"
"Well," Mr. Johnson said as he brushed back his sandy blonde hair, "I'm not sure. Some how, I'm going to teach you the language and culture of the Romulans. And we need to be fast. You've only got one month to learn everything that took me years to learn."
