Chapter 29

(Hannah's POV)

"Are you ready?" I ask.

"I don't know. I'm so nervous." Maria says.

"You're going to rock it. We rehearsed all week for this. Come on."

"Maria Anderson." A guy comes into the room.

"I guess it's my turn." She takes a deep breath.

She follows the guy and we see her appear on the screen. I smile and Caleb stands next to me.

"She'll do great. I just know it." He says.

The music starts and she gets ready. As she starts to sing, we see the judges' expressions on the other screens.

"Come on. Come on." I say.

"It's only the beginning, don't worry." Mrs. Anderson says.

Miley leans and her hand is so close to the buzzer.

"Yes. Yes. Go on, Miley." Caleb says.

I see Adam also leaning and he presses the buzzer. I squeal as his chair turns.

"Yes!" Caleb says.

A feeling of relief washes through me. She was so worried.

Caleb then claps as Miley presses her buzzer as well. I notice Maria smile as the end of the song approaches. Just as she's saying the last stanza, Blake presses the buzzer.

I squeal and hug Caleb.

"I knew it!" He says.

She chooses Miley before going down and hugging all of them. She then runs to us. Once the door is open, she jumps on Caleb as he hugs her tightly.

She squeals and I hug her tightly.

"I knew you could do it."

We just got out of the building after watching the rest of the auditions. Maria's parents were busy, though, so they went home, taking Caleb with them.

"I can't believe it." Maria smiles.

"Surprise!" We hear a group of male voices.

Turning around, we see Harry, Liam, and Niall.

"Hey!" We say.

"Congrats Maria." Niall says and hugs her.

"Thanks guys. How did you know?" She asks.

"Hannah texted us." Harry explains.

Just as she was as she was about to open her mouth, a car stops right next to us.

"I knew you could do it." James comes out of it.

"James. You didn't have to come all the way." Maria smiles.

"I told you you'd be amazing." He says and hugs her.

"Thank you. Your tips worked, so I guess it's your work." Maria says.

"Oh, honey, it must've been all you. All I told you was to relax and close your eyes until it's over."

"Hey, James." I say.

"Hey, Hannah. Harry. Niall. Liam." He says.

"Hey." They say in unison.

Maria squeals before hugging James again, thanking him. I glance next to me to see Louis getting out of Harry's car. When he sees Maria and James hugging, his eyes change. Full of jealousy and hurt. He places his finger on his lips, shushing me before I could say anything, and gets back in the car.
