Her ivory skin glistened in the light. She adjusted the small purple bow in her hair, brushing out her long dark brown hair. She watched as strands of hair fell to the floor. That had been happening a lot lately. She stared at the reflection looking back at her. Her delicate fingertips gently touched those of the mirror. She sighed, knowing the truth that lied behind the mirror. The truth that no one knew. She picked up her curling iron making ringlets and pinned her hair to one side. She slipped her small feet into the silver flats laying beside her. she grabbed the little clutch on her old oak dresser. As she went to leave, she topped, stealing one last glance at herself. She admired her plum dress, that showed off her slender body. She brushed out a wrinkle at the bottom of the dress. Jewels sparkled from below the bust.
"Anne!" the faint voice of a women called from downstairs.
Anne forced a smile and walked out the door of her attic bedroom. As she made her way down the stairs, she couldn't help but feel like everyone's eyes were on her. Her mother's eye had tears slowly falling from them, while her dad's eyes had that " my little girl is all grown up" look. "You look beautiful" her mother said completely awestruck. Anne smiled, blushing from embarrassment.
"she does, doesn't she?" a familiar voice spoke. Soon a handsome young man appeared from the living room. He was wearing a fitted tuxedo with a plum tie. His hair was shaggy and brown While his beautiful brown eyes shone in the lighting of the room.
"Jeremy?" Anne asked, stunned by his appearance.
He stepped closer to the stairs extending his hand out to help her on the last few stairs. He grinned admiring Anne's beauty. He took a deep breath before speaking very quickly.
"Anne, I know I'm not your prince, but I've liked you since the very first day I met you 8 years ago. All this time you've only thought of me as your best friend but please, I would do anything for you. Will you please go with me to prom?"
Anne smiled. " but what happens if you are my prince?" she said throwing her arms around his neck, pulling him in for a hug. Jeremy couldn't help but feel like he was the luckiest guy on the planet. He held her close before taking her by the hand.
"C'mon, your parents are gonna want pictures." He said with a smile, wrapping his arm around her waist.
"Say cheese!" Anne's dad said, holding the camera up to his eye.
Anne smiled as did Jeremy, when they finished taking pictures, they headed out the door on their way to prom.
Just as they arrived, a slow song began to play, and students began to pair off. Jeremy offered her his hand.
"may I have this dance?"he asked shyly. Anne nodded her head and followed him out to the dance floor. She wrapped her arms around his neck, while his wrapped around her waist pulling her closer. Anne rested her head on Jeremy's shoulder, feeling a small pain in her stomach. She chose to ignore it, knowing exactly what it was. Jeremy didn't notice anything, As he was to wrapped up in the moment. Anne's pain intensified and she pulled away from Jeremy.
" what's wrong?" Jeremy asked, concerned for Anne.
Anne shook her head, suddenly feeling the room begin to spin. She steadied her arms trying to get her balance. A blank stare appeared before her entire body became numb and she fell into jeremy's arms.
" Anne!" Jeremy shouted, holding her tightly in his arms.
