Emma's POV
As I walked into High Horse Stables I saw an unusual scene in the driveway. Well it wasn't that unusual, there was a trailer in the yard but instead of being empty, the horse inside was thrashing around and even from the outside I could see the gashes and dents in the trailer. I flicked my ombre hair on to the side and straitened my hunter green High Horse T-shirt and my cream jods. I was ready for a hard workout with the school mare, Queen Bee aka Queenie or Buzz who I rode in lessons and shows.
I loved Queenie but I knew I should be on a more challenging mount like the one in the trailer, Queenie was a master of all the highschool moves of advanced dressage and a terrific show jumper and a expert at Cross Country. I knew that Mia Edwards, my BFF would love her. I think Queenie has taught me all I know even though I have only ridden her for two years.
I walked up to Mia who was standing by the trailer next to our coach, Mandy. " Whose horse is that?" I asked Mandy. " She's a rescue horse that I have adopted for one if my students, she is a registered Thoroughbred Mare with impeccable blood lines. Her registered name is Dark Star and she is a dark bay with a heart on her forehead and a snip and Star is her barn name. The only problem is that she doesn't trust humans, her last owners starved her and mistreated her" Mandy replied. " That's awful, how could some one be so mean to such a gorgeous sounding mare." "It's good that u think she's gorgeous, your parents asked me to collect her for you. Star will be in stall 11."
OMG OMG OMG!!! EEEEEEEE!!!! I HAVE A HORSE!!!!!!!" I calmed down and asked, " did mum give me anything for the horse?" " Yes, a o the stuff is in her stall."
I power walked to the stall as u can't run in the stables and saw a royal purple halter, lead rope, winter rug, summer rug, shell, saddle blanket and grooming kit. There was a fancy Leather dressage saddle, jumping saddle and 2 bridles, one for dressage and one for jumping! There was also a medical kit and a lunge line, along with other bits and pieces for training.
I decided to grab a rope halter from the tack room and the new lead rope as the halter wasn't broken in. I walked to the van and open the side door. I stepped in and I gasped in shock, the most beautiful mare that I had EVER seen stood in front of me. You could here my jaw drop as I looked at all the rippling muscles that she possessed. As soon as I layed eyes on her I knew she could take me places. How ever she had other ideas.
Star reared as she saw me but I reached out my hand and calmly talked to her. People say I have a natural gift with horses and I will go far but I know unless I don't work I won't succeed. Star was nearly calm so I slowly tied the halter on loosely and clipped on the lead rope. I quickly ran to the back after I tied her to the ring in the van and lowered the back. I opened the gate and walked up the side of the truck, slowly reached for the lead rope and backed Star down the ramp.
I walked her down the hallway of the stable letting her sniff noses to all the horses. First she wanted to meet Prancer, the gorgeous buckskin mare with the star. Her show name was Prance All The Way and she LOVED to win.
Next was Sunshine, a perfect beginners pony. She was a palamino and her show name was Make It Shine. She was a great eventer when she was younger but now she is Mandy's daughter Alyssa's pony.
Then there was Queenie. I forgot about her, who would ride her? Mandy walked up to me as I scratched her on the nose. " I bet your wondering who will ride Queenie? Well the sad thing is we have had an offer on her which we can't refuse. I'm sorry Emma but she is being sold to the Edwards Family." I noticed a sparkle in her eye. " Which Edwards family?" I asked. " Mia's family!!!" she replied.
I saw Mia walking towards us and I said," So Queenie is yours, or Tilly's?" Tilly is her sister, she's only ten and we are 12. " She's MINE!!!!" She squealed. "OMG I am soooooooo happy for u" I squealed back.
Star was becoming restless so I took her to the round yard and removed the lead rope. She started cantering fluidly, she has one of the best canters I have EVER seen. She slowed to a walk and came up to me. I felt honoured as she had been mistreated. The RSPCA had done a great job of getting her into shape but I knew that I would have to train her to reach my goals.
I left her in the yard and went to clean out he stall. I removed all the tack and other stuff and put it in my tack trunk. My trunk was a gorgeous royal purple colour. It had a collage of all the horses who I have competed on which was 10. They have all been school horses or other peoples horses. Here is a list.
1. Minty.
Minty was the first pony I rode and I only competed in walk, trot events and lead line. She was pure white with age and she is now 32.
2. Outlaw
Outlaw was a bay pony with a white blaze who I only rode in a competition. Minty was lame and I really wants to compete so I borrowed Sarah Lee's pony Outlaw. We were in walk, trot, canter and the gymkhana. We won the walk, trot, canter and 4 gymkhana events so I was reallllllly proud. The sad thin is that Outlaw passed away, he tried to jump the fence but broke his leg. I cried for a week.
3. Beau
Beau was a grey pony who I rode in 1ft jumping and came 4th in. Beau was a hard pony to jump and he refuses to canter. I was only 6 when I rode Beau.
4. Dandy
Dandy was a chestnut pony with a snip who I rode when I was seven. I competed in 2ft jumps and amazingly won it!!!!!!! I hanged the rosette in front of Dandy's stall for weeks until Mum made me bring it home!
5. Tango
Tango was a bay pony who I competed in my first dressage event when I was 7 still. He had really smooth paces a and was a Dartmoor Pony. We managed to win the event and I was happy.
6. Molly
Molly was a black Arabian x Thoroughbred with a remarkably calm nature. I rode her for 3 years till I was ten. We were always show champion and I was really sad when we lost her to a freak accident. A student was riding Molly and Molly ate some grass with weed killer. She had colic in the far paddock and no one knew until the next morning. I will never forget her, my dear, Never Stop Jumping! that was her show name!!!!
7. Dust
Dust was a grey Shetland who a neighbour owns and I once competed on her when I was ten in walk, trot.
8. Queenie
Dear Queen Bee, the pony I have ridden till now. We were nearly always show champion and we are/were competing in 4ft hunter. I am happy that Mia owns her now and I have Star but I will always miss her
They are my horses and I know that soon I will have a picture of me and Dark Star, I know we will be a better team than Molly and me or Queenie and me. I emptied the stall of hay and bedding and put fresh stuff in. I filled the royal purple water bucket and walked outside with the leadrope to catch Starry ( authors note in other words Star or Dark star).
She walked up to me and I clipped the rope to the halter. I patted her ripplingly shoulder blade an realised how lucky I was. I slowly walked to the stall and started brushing her. I patted her shoulder and slid my hand down to her foot. She politely lifted her foot and I cleaned it with the hoof pick. I then cleaned the other three hooves an brushed the invisible dirt of with the dandy brush and body brush, wiped her eyes and nose with a cloth and then ran a comb through her mane. She looked drop dead gorgeous and I was soooooo happy.
I never thought I would have such a brilliant horse. Tomorrow I would try riding her.........
