A Letter To You

My darling, my dear,

I write this one for you.

I can’t imagine that your eyes will ever fall onto this page,

but I can’t help but write it in your name.

I would love to make this a poem of love,

however we both know that wouldn’t be true,

because I laid my trust in you,

every ounce,

even that which wasn’t there.

You knew from the start that trusting someone,

anyone,

never seemed possible for me,

and yet, still, you came into my life,

whispering sweet words,

calming my nerves,

you beckoned me near,

saying that you’ll never leave.

How foolish I was to believe

those lies,

those obvious lies.

No matter what I do I cannot undo what has been done,

I had already handed over my tattered heart,

before I saw the quick flash of your wicked smile,

and now I sit here alone,

depression and distrust, my rivals,

while you go on living,

I will never understand your motives,

I only hope you noticed just what you did to me.
