"Do you like the nude dress or the black one better?" Cora asks me as she holds up the two dresses.
The two of us were at the mall trying to search for an outfit for her to wear. She was going to spend the day with her boyfriend's family and wanted to look presentable and insisted that amongst all of the clothes she already had, she had to get a new outfit. I look at both dresses that she held in her hands and shrugged.
"Don't you think they're a little too...sexy for a day with his family?"
She stares at both of the dresses "They do look like party dresses, don't they?"
"Yes, they do." I don't try to hide the truth.
"You're right. Let's find something else." She sticks the two dresses in a place where they obviously don't belong and we continue to search the store.
"Is Hunter coming to your house or are you going to his?" Cora questions as she searches. She holds up and ugly orange shirt that I instantly decline, making her laugh and put it back on the rack.
"He's coming to my place and then Friday I'll go to his family's house."
"Aw, that's sweet. I'm happy you guys are doing well."
"Yeah, me too. I'm not sure how long it's going to last, though."
"What? Why do you think that?" She laughs and looks up at me.
"Because I still haven't told him that I'm not going back to Notre Dame next semester."
"Why not?"
"Because I'm afraid of his reaction and that he will be mad at me for leaving."
"Well your reason for leaving is a good reason and he can't be mad because you're unhappy there. And honestly, when has Hunter ever been mad at you for doing something that would benefit you?"
She did have a point...
"He's been pretty understanding about everything, why do you think it'll be any different now? If he is angry about you leaving because you're unhappy, that's pretty selfish, don't you think?" She asks and I nod. "I mean...he may be mad since you've waited a long time to tell him, which you can't be mad at...but I'm sure he'll get over it if it's what you really want. It is what you really want, right?"
"Yes, and I thought about that as well. Maybe I shouldn't have waited so long to tell him...but gosh, I'm afraid. I don't even know why because Hunter is so forgiving," I sigh. "But I also have to tell him about the doubts I was having about our relationship..."
"Oh, right. Are you still having those doubts?" She steps searching to look at me.
"No," I shake my head. "But sometimes they still linger in the back of my mind. I guess it's because I know this is only the beginning and if this semester was bad, can you imagine the next three weeks?"
"You're so pessimistic." She crinkles her nose at me.
"I'm trying not to be! I can't help it..." My voice grows small. "I've really been trying hard lately and all semester I was having doubts but after our huge fight a few weeks ago, it made me realize that I don't want to lose him. I just feel like life is getting in the way."
"Well if you're that confused maybe you do need a break," She says. "Your relationship shouldn't be this stressful. And you never know what you may realize during your break."
"True..."
"Either way, just do what you think is best. But I definitely think you should tell him."
