The willow tree swayed in the slight breeze. The house was in ruins. Splintered wood was littered around the small island. Cries of a small child echoed from the wreckage. Cautiously entering the man saw the couple dead and their daughter crying from behind the overturned table.
"Hey it's okay. You can come with me." His voice was cautious, not wanting to scare the girl any more than she already was. He held out his hand letting her make the decision. She took his hand and he led her to his small boat. The trip across the lake was quick, but the child still managed to fall asleep. He would send some of the other elves of the village to retrieve the two bodies still on the island with the willow...
