Chapter 2 Story Brook

The day was warm; the sky was a bright blue with a few stray clouds passing across the sun. Kat rolled her windows down as she drove into Story Brook, the air was so fresh and clean compared to big city. She looked in awe at the surrounding forest, something felt familiar, like she had been there in a past life. “What a cute little town” she said as she drove in, her stomach growled “should have eaten before I left” she thought. Kat parked her 1967 impala in front of a little dinner, cutting the engine she stepped out, she pushed her long brown hair behind her ear as she walked to the front door; there was a little jingle as she opened the door. She could feel everyone’s eyes land on her, Kat looked down thinking she forgot to put on her pants by the looks everyone gave her. Her heels clicked on the ground as she walked to the counter and sat down.

“What do you want?” an older lady said kindly

Kat looked over the menu “I’ll try a burger” she said pointing to the cheese burger, the woman nodded and walked back to the kitchen.

Kat hungrily dug into the burger when a young woman brought it out “Damn honey anyone feed ya in a while?” the young women in red asked

Kat shrugged and swallowed her mouth full “Just haven’t eaten all day” she mutters softly taking another bite of her food, Kat kept her eyes down at her plate, something was very off about this town and she just wanted to get out as fast as she could.

After finishing her burger she got up and left the money on the counter opening the door to leave she bumped into a person “crap” she hissed softly “I’m so sorry” she said to the blonde.

“You’re new aren’t” the blonde said with a smile on her face.

“Yeah, I’m just visiting” Kat said fixing her band shirt “I’m Kat” she pushed her long brown hair back behind her ear, her hand then smoothed out her short black and purple plaid skirt

                “Emma,” they shook hands.

Kat smiled and waved good bye walking back to her car, she looked around and decided she wanted to look around. Walking down the streets she looked at the stores, nothing really caught her attention. She absentmindedly played with the ring around her neck “Mr. Gold,” she looked in the window and saw all these beautiful  nick-nacks, so she walked in. the place took her breath away, she stopped and looked at two dolls her hand running over them lightly.

“The store is closed Miss,” a man snapped walking out of the back room.

Kat spun around her eyes wide “I’m so sorry sir, the sign it said open” she gripped her ring nervously her dark brown eyes were wide “I didn’t mean to intrude.”

The man brushed his long hair behind his ear “then the fault is all mine.” he strode over to her closing the space quickly “what is your name?”

Kat looked at him, something about him looked so familiar but she couldn’t place him, “my name is Kat” she says softly hoping her voice didn’t shake to much, her long creamy fingers slowly loosened around the ring letting the cool metal rest against her warm skin.

The man looked her over, there was something behind his eyes that she couldn’t read, “Do you have a last name Ms. Kat?” he asked her, his voice was smooth

Kat could feel a light blush covering her cheeks when he asked her that, “I don’t remember” she says looking away, her long brown hair falling into her face hiding her blush.

Mr. Gold’s eyes looked Bell over, she had changed so much yet not at all. He reached out and pushed her long brown hair behind her ear “don’t hide b- Kat” he smiled softly as the blush on her cheeks turned a deeper red. It took everything in him not to pull her in and hold her close.

Kat blushed deeply and looked up at him “thank you sir” she looked into his deep brown eyes; Shaking her head and looked away from the man, “I um have to go” she whispers backing up some, it scared her how this man, that she didn’t even know, made her feel, she kept her beautiful brown eyes to the ground and hurried out of his store and ran back to her car, she quickly got in and almost screamed as a little brown haired boy popped up next to her window.

The little boy tapped on her window “open up!” he yelled.

Kat slowly unrolled her window “what is it kid?” she asked loosening her grip on her ring; she tried to make her heart beat slowly down.

“You can’t leave!” he said franticly his face full of concern, “if you leave then the curse will never be lifted!”

Kat stared at the little boy like he was nuts, the blond from earlier ran over “Henry leave Kat alone” she says softly and looks at Kat “I’m so sorry Kat, Henry has a very active imagination”

Kat looked at the little boy then back at Emma “its okay…” she says softly and bites her lip “uh Emma do you know where I can find the Police Station?” she  asked.

Emma smiled “yeah follow me over” she says happily then looks down at her son “Henry go on home before Henry gets upset with the two of us”
